Among Us is one of the most important games of 2020, despite being released without fanfare in 2018.
Nintendo held an Indie World Showcase yesterday, December 15, which ended with the announcement of Among Us surprise launching on Switch that evening. Among Us was previously available on PC via Steam, iOS, and Android mobile devices, with an Xbox Game PC version slated to arrive tomorrow. The Switch port of Among Us is the first version of the game to come to home consoles, and it only seems like a given that it will come to PlayStation and Xbox systems in the future at this point.
Among Us has been available for less than twenty-four hours at the time of writing, but it has already topped the Nintendo Switch eShop charts in both the US and UK. It has dethroned overall bestselling Nintendo Switch games.
The popularity of Among Us on social media and streaming sites was likely the biggest factor in the game's instant success on the eShop, but the price also needs to be considered. Among Us costs a mere $5 on the eShop, making it an inconsequential purchase for most while still offering hours of entertainment. The game is currently one of the best deals on the eShop in of sheer pop culture value alone, so it's no surprise that people have flocked to the game so quickly.
The Nintendo Switch port of Among Us has some Fall Guys is floundering in the port department, but the Among Us developer isn't making the same mistake. At this rate, it likely won't be long until it can be played on PlayStation and Xbox systems, too.
