Fresh off the success of Netflix's Blonde, scheduled to release on September 28.
From a badass novice spy to an A.I., de Armas has wowed the audience with her range of charismatic and complex characters. Though not all her movies have performed well at the box-office based on Knives Out.
Wasp Network (2019) - $1,569,970
Available On Netflix
Netflix's Wasp Network is a 2019 independent drama starring Penélope Cruz, Édgar Ramírez, and Gael García Bernal. The film is based on the true story of Cuban spies in America during the 1990s and features Ana de Armas as Ana Margarita Martínez, a woman caught up in the chaos of Cuba's unsanctioned actions.
Despite its early premiere in 2019, Wasp Network was not distributed worldwide until 2020. Upon its release, the film made very little at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), likely due to poor reviews, its hybrid release on Netflix, and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was still in its early days when Wasp Network hit theaters. Despite her surging popularity at the time of the film's release, de Armas proved unable to bolster this sinking film.
The Informer (2019) - $2,927,708
Available On Amazon Prime Video
The Informer is a British crime thriller released in 2019 and stars Joel Kinnamon, Rosamund Pike, and Common. Ana de Armas portrays Sofia Koslow, the wife of the film's protagonist (Kinnamon) who is caught up in the havoc caused by her husband's criminal activities.
Despite a rather noteworthy cast of talented actors, The Informer flopped after its release (via Box Office Mojo), dragged down by its uninventive writing and recycled plot. The film struggled to make any level of profit at the box office, becoming a massive financial disappointment despite its cast, among whom de Armas is one of the most influential.
Hands Of Stone (2016) - $4,978,353
Available On Roku
Jonathan Jakubowicz's Hands of Stone is a 2016 sports drama film starring Édgar Ramírez as Roberto Durán, a real-life Panamanian boxer. The film also includes Robert De Niro as trainer Ray Arcel and Usher as fellow boxer Sugar Ray Leonard. Ana de Armas has a role in the film as Felicidad Iglesias, Durán's wife.
Hands of Stone remains one of de Armas's lowest-rated films, which failed to gain any traction at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), likely as a result of its poor reviews and unsuccessful limited run leading up to its wide release. Nevertheless, de Armas proved notable enough throughout the film, which came prior to her surge in popularity, to book several ground-breaking roles in the following years.
Knock Knock (2015) - $5,567,103
Available On Hulu
Eli Roth's Knock Knock is a 2015 thriller film, starring Keanu Reeves as a man who is manipulated and robbed by a pair of deranged con artists. Ana de Armas plays Bel, one half of the robbing duo, alongside Lorenza Izzo's Genesis.
Despite premiering a year after Keanu Reeves's resurgence following John Wick, this horror flick fell flat (via Box Office Mojo). After disparaging reviews from critics, the film was largely ignored by audiences, failing to make back the money it cost to make and quickly fading into obscurity, though some have found this project in the years since its release thanks to de Armas's incredibly popularity thereafter. Had the film been released several years later, its box office numbers may have been much higher after all.
Sex, Party & Lies (2009) - $5,723,917
Available On Flix Latino
Sex, Party, & Lies, originally titled Mentiras y Gordas, is a Spanish-language comedy following a group of young people eager to engage in the activities of the oncoming summer. The coming-of-age film stars Ana de Armas as Carola, Marios Casas, and Yon González.
Ana de Armas's fourth acting credit didn't garner a very large profit at the box office, though it is important to note that the film was only released in Peru and Spain, playing to a much smaller audience than many of the actress's other projects (via Box Office Mojo). Had the film received a worldwide release, its numbers may have indeed been much higher, especially due to de Armas's international appeal as an actress.
Overdrive (2017) - $9,650,552
Available On Starz

In the film, Ana de Armas plays Stephanie, Eastwood's love interest and a fellow con artist who helps the brothers take on the criminals coming for them.
Via Box Office Mojo, Overdrive was considered a flop at the worldwide box office, likely due to its unusual release, poor reviews, and largely unknown cast at the time of the film's release. While many of the actors in the film's cast seemed to escape with their careers unscathed, their combined talent, including de Armas's solid effort, was still not enough to save Overdrive from descending into obscurity.
War Dogs (2016) - $86,234,523
Available On Netflix
Joker director Todd Phillips, the film also stars Ana de Armas as Iz, the girlfriend of Teller's character, who is unaware of his unsavory business practices until a fateful moment later in the plot.
Getting relatively positive reviews from fans, War Dogs is largely considered to be one of Ana de Armas's best projects, in which she manages to make the most of a relatively small amount of screentime. The film, however, didn't make a particularly large impact at the global box office, making only a minor profit by the end of its theatrical run (via Box Office Mojo).
Blade Runner 2049 (2017) - $259,352,064

Ana de Armas portrays Joi, an A.I. invented by the Wallace Corporation.
Though the Blade Runner sequel is one of de Armas's highest-grossing movies in which she gave her breakout performance, the film didn't make enough to justify its astronomical budget, leading to it being labeled as a flop (via Despite flopping, Blade Runner 2049 is beloved by audiences, many of whom believe the film deserves a second chance.

The film sports an all-star ensemble cast that includes Daniel Craig, Michael Shanon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, and many more. In the film, Ana de Armas plays Marta Cabrera, the nurse of the murdered family patriarch Harlan Thrombey.
Knives Out was the refreshing hit of 2019, not acting as a sequel or an installment of a pre-sold franchise. The film gained traction due to its snappy script, unique storytelling, and de Armas's crowd-winning performance, after which her career would never be the same. The throwback murder mystery has built quite a fanbase over the years as fans anxiously wait for Knives Out 2 later this year.
