Summary

  • Will Ferrell's Ron Burgundy wears a light suit in a piece of Anchorman and Tron crossover art.
  • Anchorman features moments of absurdist humor that could make a Tron crossover possible.
  • A crossover between the two properties is highly unlikely to ever actually happen.

Will Ferrell's most memorable films, with the comedic actor taking on the role of Ron Burgundy, an eccentric newscaster. The movie and its 2013 sequel both adopt an absurdist tone, but neither one strays into the realm of science fiction.

In a new piece of crossover art by Roger Hendrix, Anchorman crosses over with the world of 1982's Tron for a new movie simply dubbed "Ron". Check out the art below:

"I'm kind of a big deal. s know me," the caption says, a riff on one of Ferrell's memorable Anchorman lines. The image features Ron in the classic Tron light suit, not the sleeker suits featured in 2010's Tron: Legacy.

An Anchorman & Tron Crossover Could Actually Work

One Anchorman Scene Makes It Possible

Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate ride animated unicorns in Anchorman

On the surface, both Anchorman and Tron are wildly different. Anchorman is a comedy, after all, and the Tron franchise is deeply rooted in sci-fi, featuring light suits, light cycles, and the Grid, which is essentially a vast virtual universe home to Argon City and Tron City. The former title, however, features an absurd tone that would mean a detour to the Grid could actually work under the right circumstances.

Tron and Tron: Legacy are both currently streaming on Disney Plus.

In addition to the now-iconic Anchorman flute scene, the movie features one particularly absurd sequence in which Ron takes Christina Applegate's Veronica Corningstone to "Pleasure Town". This abstract sequence features Ron and Veronica riding unicorns and gliding over rainbows in an animated realm, with the whole thing serving as a metaphor for sex. With such a drastic jump to the absurd, it's possible that a trip to the Grid could work if it was handled in the same absurdly hilarious way.

Such a crossover is unlikely to ever happen given the legal hurdles and the fact that the Tron: Ares looks to be sticking to the franchise's sci-fi roots. Anchorman 3 is also not currently planned, though Ferrell did say back in 2017 that another sequel is not out of the question at some point in the future. For now, it looks like an Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Tron crossover is something destined to remain in the world of fan art.

WHERE TO WATCH

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a comedy film starring Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate that follows the titular Ron as a San Diego news anchor. The movie satirizes the news culture of the 1970s, where men ruled the airwaves, and here, Ron Burgundy is the king. But when the station hires Veronica Corningstone, a female anchor, Ron and the other men's egos are shaken, forcing them to reckon with the changing social landscape.
