Warning! SPOILERS for Andor episode 10.In Andor continues to prove his point. Andor season 1, episode 10, "One Way Out," features Mon Mothma's meeting with Davo Sculdun, who appears to be more than willing to assist her in moving her funds around. However, he’s not interested in being paid, at least not with credits. Instead, he suggests that Mon Mothma set up her 13-year-old daughter, Leida, with his 14-year-old son.
Mon Mothma’s tragic relationship with her family may soon be getting far more complicated. Andor season 1, episode 10 continues to keep the stakes high by cornering and challenging its characters into making dark decisions. Throughout the Star Wars show, Leida takes every opportunity she can to disobey and undermine her mother. Her character has been unlikable from the get-go, but now she may be headed toward the same tragic fate as her mother. Despite Mon Mothma’s initial adamant refusal to entertain the idea of a betrothal, Davo Sculdun seems to think otherwise.
Will Mon Mothma Really Marry Her Daughter To Davo's Son?
It’s hard to say whether Mon Mothma has it in her to betroth Leida into the likes of Davo Sculdun’s family. Mon Mothma herself was betrothed to her husband, Perrin Fertha, and the marriage seems to have only brought unhappiness to her life. Should she choose to use her daughter as a piece in her game, Leida would be subjected to a similar fate — or worse. Mon Mothma’s family is already complicated enough, but things could get so much worse if Mon Mothma ends up selling off her own daughter.
If Mon Mothma can’t go through with betrothing Leida, then she’s almost entirely out of options when it comes to using her fortune for the Rebellion. If this happens, it’s likely she’ll have to flee her own family as well as her position in the Senate in order to take a more active role in the Rebellion. It’s clear that her family doesn’t her political activism, and the Senate doesn’t seem to care much for her charity either. It is no wonder why Palpatine dissolves the Senate by the time of A New Hope, as it seems to be more of a formality than a democracy.
Mon Mothma's Daughter Twist Would Make Her Rebellion Arc Even More Tragic
If Mon Mothma does end up marrying her daughter off to further the Rebellion’s agenda, it would push her and her family to the breaking point. Leida detests any idea that her mother comes up with, so it follows that she’d likely be furious at the prospect of being betrothed to someone that works with her mother. Nevertheless, Mon Mothma’s options have all but run out, and if she is to continue to help the Rebels financially she will need to get her hands dirty. Luthen’s words in Andor season 1, episode 10 apply to Mon Mothma as well as himself: they’re both condemned to use the tools of their enemies in order to defeat them.
