Andor season 2 expected to be the final season, it is poised to connect the two franchises directly, bridging the gap within the five-year timeline.
A new poster released by the official Star Wars Twitter reveals that the franchise is already preparing to return to its old tagline. Check out the poster below:
While it is a minimalist style for the poster, it does showcase a new tagline beneath the Andor title. The show has officially been renamed to Andor: A Star Wars Story, which easily draws comparisons to the anthology movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The post also confirmed the show's release date to be April 22, 2025.
What The Star Wars Story Tagline Means
The Tagline Was Previously Abandoned By Lucasfilm
The Star Wars Story tagline was originally meant to be the anthology banner. It was intended to mark every major standalone movie set in the Star Wars universe, offering audiences a healthy shorthand to identify the intention of each production. Unfortunately, it was also assigned to Solo: A Star Wars Story, which earned just $393.2 million on a production budget of $275 million. Considering additional marketing costs and the cut that theaters take, that movie was a clear box office bomb. After Solo's failure, Lucasfilm had since moved away from the tagline.
Lucasfilm is becoming increasingly comfortable with its old style of marketing.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's recent trailer alluded to a return to the marketing tagline, however, as it was described as A Star Wars Adventure, which ties closely to the Story reference. That alone is an indication of Lucasfilm's willingness to bestow an anthology reference again. Andor's return to the Rogue One tagline showcases that Lucasfilm is becoming increasingly comfortable with its old style of marketing. It also hints at a stronger connection to Rogue One with the show drifting to an end.
Our Take On The Star Wars Story Tagline
The Tagline's Return Is A Good Sign For Star Wars
While adding it to Andor does not necessarily mean that A Star Wars Story will be added to new movies and shows, it is excellent to see its return. After all, it is an excellent shorthand that can provide viewers with additional insight into a movie's purpose. Rather than confusing a new franchise with a Skywalker Saga production, it can give audiences the chance to visit the show or movie with the correct expectations. It also offers a hint that Andor will tie more closely with Rogue One, so it was a natural step for the franchise.
