Andrew Garfield reveals if he is set to return as Spider-Man and what it would take for him to come back as the the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast, fans have been actively advocating to see more of Garfield's version of Spider-Man. With The Multiverse Saga still in effect, the door is wide open for Garfield to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as his incarnation of Peter Parker.
As Garfield was recently one of the guests at the Abu Dhabi Comic Con (via Visit Abu Dhabi,) the Spider-Man star was asked at a if he would ever return as his version of the web-crawler. While stating that he is telling the truth, even though jokingly saying that he expects no one to believe him, Garfield says he truly doesn't know, but that he is more than open to returning to the Marvel world, with the following condition:
I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird. I think I would like to do something very strange, I would want to do something very unique, and offbeat and surprising.
Garfield was featured on a alongside Arrowverse's Grant Gustin, who played The Flash on The CW, as well as the fellow Marvel stars Charlie Cox and Wilson Bethel, who portray Daredevil and Bullseye, respectively, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Garfield hasn't been back in the MCU since 2021, archived footage of his Marvel hero was featured in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
What Andrew Garfield's Marvel Comments Mean For His Spider-Man
It's been heavily theorized that Garfield's Spider-Man will be back in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, as The Multiverse Saga gets ready to enter the end of the massive storyline. Based on Garfield's condition, having his Peter in any of the next Avengers movies would be considered strange, at least from his character's perspective. Being brought back into a universe where he is not only dealing with Spider-Man variants, but also a team like the Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, that is more than enough to qualify as "weird" since these characters don't exist in his world.
As far as what Garfield's Spider-Man could do in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to be considered "something very unique, and offbeat and surprising," there are so many opportunities they could take with his character. From having him clash with other Marvel heroes to getting the Symbiote costume, the potential is endless. It wouldn't be shocking if Garfield is fully aware when he will show up next, but simply can't reveal his MCU return officially to the public yet until Marvel Studios is ready to announce it.
Our Take On Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man Comments
While it's clear from Garfield's new Marvel comments that he is more than happy to continue playing Spider-Man, time will tell whether or not he is actually having to keep something under wraps. Given that Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige has commented that more Avengers: Doomsday casting news is on its way, it wouldn't be shocking at all if Garfield is one of them. Hopefully, it will become clearer sooner rather than later if Garfield is making his return to the MCU for Phase 6.
