After one Animal Crossing: New Horizons player lost their entire island, the community has offered to help them rebuild. Many players put tens to hundreds of hours into creating and decorating their island, and losing even a little progress can be a huge setback. Losing the entire island is difficult to imagine, but that's exactly what happened to one player.
Reddit DusyaDu details their ordeal on Reddit after sending their Switch in for repairs. After putting over 1680 hours of work into their island, DusyaDu's Switch experienced the dreaded "orange screen of death," which essentially bricked the console. DusyaDu sent their console to Nintendo to fix it, hoping that the cloud backup would retain the island's data and allow them to get right back into creating once they got their Switch console back.
Unfortunately, the Switch was beyond repair and the Redditor got a new Switch in the mail. What's more, unfortunately, is that the cloud save failed, leading to the complete loss of the entire island, EverGreen.
Why The Animal Crossing Community Is Among The Best
Players Are Offering To Help Rebuild EverGreen
Luckily, DusyaDu still has the dream address for the island, allowing any player to visit the island. This has led others to offer to help rebuild the lost island by donating items.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 10 Things You Still Didn't Know In 2024
Even after all these years, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to surprise players as they uncover little details that were previously unnoticed.
Reddit Rose-Ashia suggests that, since other people can still visit and explore the island through its Dream code, they can help DusyaDu by sending them the items they would need to rebuild it.
Others have echoed the sentiment in the comment section, offering to send the Redditor any items, materials, plants, or anything else they need. At the moment, DusyaDu is too disheartened to work on the island again, but if they do decide to do so, it's clear that the community will do everything in their power to them.
We Hope The Lost Animal Crossing Island Can Be Restored
All Hope Is Not Lost
It may seem like there's no hope left for this player's creation, but it may still be possible to restore the island. Several comments suggest that it may be possible to restore the island by working with Nintendo, though the process is time-consuming and not easy, it is possible.
Some people in the comments say that they've had a similar experience and were able to get their saves restored. The save system for Animal Crossing works differently than typical saves, which apparently gives Nintendo the ability to potentially restore lost progress, though this isn't without its difficulties. According to Redditor DrCarabou, "It took 4 hours on the phone, but I got mine back."
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released during a difficult time for everyone, and many players found solace in the wholesome island-deg game. The next Animal Crossing title is rumored to be in development, but it may be difficult to recreate the same bond that the community currently shares.
