Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for almost a year, and many players have not only found all currently available collectable items and DIY recipes, but finished the museum, upgraded their homes, and attained the perfect balance of villagers. With island homes that have achieved such a level of completion in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, fans of the game might be wondering what they'll be able to accomplish next, or if they have truly reached the perceived end of their own personal save file.

There are several things that players can do when they feel they have accomplished all there is to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Getting ready for the events can provide players with new tasks to accomplish. Currently, players are preparing for Animal Crossing's February event Festivale. Now might be the time to take down winter decorations and start putting out colorful furniture to help brighten the island in time for the event. After Festivale, it appears that there will also be a new event in March centered around a crossover between Animal Crossing and Super Mario.

For some players, events aren't the main reason they have enjoyed Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Many players have spent long hours turning the game into a canvas for their own personal creativity. Players have created elaborate island designs that include an Animal Crossing recreation of an IKEA superstore, among other time consuming ideas. If a player is looking for a new challenge in their Animal Crossing game, they could select a difficult location and attempt to rebuild it with a shovel and determination on their own island.

Players could also try bringing new villagers to their island to change the community. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has 397 villagers that can be invited to an island town. Players looking to shake things up could purposefully invite a slew of Animal Crossing's worst villagers to their island and watch chaos ensure, or they could attempt to locate some of the more coveted and elusive villagers, like Raymond the cat. Having a new slew of villagers could freshen up a player's daily interactions.

Sometimes the best way to breathe new life into a game, however, is to start over. Resetting an Animal Crossing save will allow a player to take on the challenges of the game anew, with a brand-new base island and a fresh slate of villagers. While resetting a saved game is an extreme measure, as only one Animal Crossing save file can exist on a Switch Console, it may be the perfect way for a player whose done everything to try again with a new set of strategies. Animal Crossing: New Horizons doesn't really have an end for the game, but there are plenty of ways for players to keep gameplay fresh, and continue to challenge themselves both socially and creatively.
