Fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons just got a whole lot easier for some fans, who have discovered a trick to it that many don't know about. New Horizons is the latest game in the Animal Crossing franchise, and like those that came before it, the cozy island living sim has plenty of daily activities for players to participate in.

Fishing is one of these activities, and it's become even more enjoyable thanks to a tip uncovered by Reddit Ok-Bee-734. The Redditor discovered that when you're fishing from atop a cliff, you can cast your fishing line down a level to fish in the waters below you. "This is wild to me, my mind is blown," says the Redditor, who's been playing the game since it was released in March 2020.

Fishing In ACNH Is Made Easier By Cliffside Fishing Trick

No More Wasting Time Going Up And Down Levels

Fishing in Animal Crossing is a minigame that involves casting your fishing line in front of the shadow of a fish, and waiting for it to bite. In a video shared by the original poster, the player fishes up a black bass from atop a cliff, then turns toward the cliff's edge and casts the fishing line again. This time, the fishing line goes into the river one level below the cliff that the player is standing on.

This feature has been in the games since the beginning, with the GameCube games also allowing fishing of a lower level, but it's never explained in-game, allowing for spontaneous discoveries like this one, years later.

Like many discoveries, this one was made by accident. The Redditor its they were "just trying to climb down the vine but didn’t position myself correctly." Knowing that you can fish down a level means not having to spend any time climbing up and down cliffs using a ladder or vine. The Redditor wishes they'd known this earlier, lamenting "the amount of time I could have saved myself."
