Summary

  • Fans won't have to part with their favorite campers just yet. Nintendo is crafting a paid offline edition of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
  • While online features like visiting campsites won't be in the new game, players can transfer their save data over.
  • Nintendo's decision to release an offline version of Pocket Camp is a win for the dedicated player base.

As one of Nintendo's most popular games on iOS and Android, the company is shifting its priorities after confirming that Pocket Camp is shutting down in November 2024. Fortunately, fans won't need to bid farewell to their campers just yet because an alternative is on the way that should help ease the loss.

Per an official post on the Pocket Camp blog, Nintendo confirmed that it's currently developing a paid version of the app which will go live once the existing product is terminated. This new game will feature everything fans have come to love about Pocket Camp but won't sport online features like the ability to visit other campsites, send gifts to fellow players, or receive Market Boxes. Those who have placed a decent chunk of time into the online version won't lose anything since they'll be able to transfer their save data over to the offline title.

A Win For Animal Crossing Fans

Better Than Destroying Everything

As sad as it is that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is coming to an end, Nintendo's decision to release an offline version of the game is excellent. Given the player base's investment, which includes both time and money, it's refreshing to see that dedication live on through a new but related title. When a publisher pulls the plug on a game, it's often the case that it deletes everything, leaving ionate players with nothing in return.

Nintendo has yet to clarify how much players will be expected to pay for the offline iteration of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp but one has to imagine that it won't be too much. Since the game is scheduled to end in November, information on the price, and the release date, is set to arrive in October. Until then, players will want to use all their remaining Leaf Tickets since these items won't be transferred over to the new Pocket Camp.

Pocket Camp players may be excited to gain a new take on their beloved game but the rest of the Animal Crossing franchise is waiting patiently for the next mainline release. Rumors allege that the series' next game will arrive in 2026 and be exclusive to the so-called Nintendo Switch 2. These claims have yet to be confirmed so it's worth taking them with a grain of salt.
