Fan artwork was recently posted imagining a space-themed Animal Crossing: New Horizons sequel, with planets similar to Super Mario Galaxy. The latest Animal Crossing game exploded in popularity after it was released last year during the global lockdown. Super Mario Galaxy also returned to the Nintendo Switch last year as part of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection of 3D Mario games released to celebrate Super Mario’s 35th anniversary.
Fans are excited for an Animal Crossing: New Horizons update that will be live-streamed on the Nintendo YouTube channel on October 15th. It has been hinted that Brewster, and his cafe The Roost, will make a triumphant return to Animal Crossing after a long wait. While this is exciting on its own, some fans are already looking even farther to the future and imaging what a potential sequel to Animal Crossing: New Horizons might look like.
Reddit dakotabardy posted some beautiful fan art of what a potential Animal Crossing: New Horizons sequel could look like, featuring Tom Nook’s kids as astronauts and a rabbit NPC native to the moon. A potential title, Animal Crossing: Blast Off, was even suggested. The post has garnered over three thousand upvotes and plenty of awards from the r/AnimalCrossing subreddit, showing that this is certainly an idea that many fans can get behind.
In the final image, dakotabardy included a lovely spaceship design for Isabelle that looks like a strawberry. Plenty of fun lore was also offered up for Jade, the rabbit that lives on the moon. Apparently, during the day she gets very grump and unfriendly but is much sweeter at night when the moon is out. There is limitless potential for creativity when the entire galaxy is available. This is certainly an engaging idea, but for now, it might be best for Nintendo to focus on updating the current Animal Crossing game, and maybe update some jokes.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons' second anniversary is coming up in March 2022. It might be too soon for a sequel, but the idea of an Animal Crossing game that takes place in space, where each player maintains their own planet, certainly has potential. Anyone who has played Super Mario Galaxy will the opportunities afforded by the unique gravity in the game. Animal Crossing's Halloween is already gearing up to be a good time, and this announcement would only add to the excitement. Of course, this is just a fan creating art of a project they'd like to play, and none of this is anywhere near a certainty. With the next big Animal Crossing: New Horizons update scheduled for October 15th, fans will just have to wait and see what happens next.
