Sony's Gina Prince-Bythewood's Black & Silver in the works, the Animated Spider-Man movie has emerged as one of the more promising and exciting big screen takes on the iconic Spider-Man lore that's set to hit theaters over the next couple of years.
And out of the many reasons to be excited about the film, one of the biggest is the fact that it'll be the first feature-length Spider-Man film to follow the Miles Morales incarnation of the character, instead of Peter Parker. So while Sony is keeping official plot and character details mostly under wraps for the time being, this Animated Spider-Man film is proving itself to be an increasingly interesting comic book adaptation with each new update and casting announcement associated with it.
In case the film's creative talent wasn't already exciting enough, originally rumored to be played by Ice Cube earlier this year. Meanwhile, Ali is said to be taking on the larger role of Miles’ uncle, Aaron Davis, who apparently deeply loves his nephew, but continues to work on the wrong side of the law. The film is currently set for a 2018 release date and will be co-directed by Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians).
Ali and Henry an already impressive cast attached to the Animated Spider-Man film, which includes Schreiber did tease that the film will have a "throwback vibe" that some fans may not have been originally expecting.
Both Ali and Henry are two actors coming off of extremely successful career moments in 2016, with Henry receiving widespread critical acclaim for his role as Paper Boi in the Donald Glover-led FX series, Atlanta. And in addition to winning an Oscar for his performance in Moonlight last year, this role also marks the second time that Ali will star in a well-known comic book adaptation, following his memorable performance as the villainous Cottonmouth in Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage series. So to say that the cast and creative team behind this Animated Spider-Man film is already stacked, would be an understatement, which certainly isn't a bad thing as the film continues to gain more and more traction moving forwards.
