The cast of Pitch Perfect is led by Anna Kendrick in the role of Beca Mitchell, but did Kendrick really sing all of her songs? The 2010s saw a variety of comedies that were a success with critics and audiences, and among the most popular ones is Pitch Perfect. Directed by Jason Moore and released in 2012, Pitch Perfect is loosely based on the non-fiction book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate a Cappella Glory, by Mickey Rapkin, and it follows an all-girl a cappella group known as the Barden Bellas, from Barden University, as they compete against another a cappella group from their school to win Nationals.

The Barden Bellas, although talented, is full of strong and very different personalities that sooner or later had to collide, and leading the team at the time of Beca’s arrival were Aubrey Posen (Anna Camp) and Chloe Beale (Brittany Snow). Beca’s style and talent were a big shake-up for the Barden Bellas, but in the end, she was key in leading the team to victory, and she continued to be a part of the group in the sequels, simply titled Pitch Perfect 2 and Pitch Perfect 3. Anna Kendrick shined in her performance as Beca and got to show off her singing talents, which raised the question of whether she truly sang all her songs in Pitch Perfect or she got some extra help.

Anna Kendrick Did Really Sing In Pitch Perfect

Anna Kendrick’s acting career started in theater, and her acting debut arrived when she was 12, with a ing role in the Broadway musical High Society. After that, Kendrick continued to work in musical theater and made her big screen debut in the 2003 musical Camp, so she already had a lot of experience in musicals by the time she ed the cast of Pitch Perfect – but singing a cappella and dancing on a movie set was a completely new experience for her. Although it was a new and at times scary experience for Kendrick, she’s a professional at what she does, and she really sang all of her songs in all Pitch Perfect movies, showing that she can not only do musical theater and comedy, but she can also add a cappella performance to her list of talents and skills.

Pitch Perfect has a great soundtrack with a variety of songs brought to new life by both the Barden Bellas and the Treblemakers, such as “Don’t Stop the Music”, “Party in the U.S.A.”, and different mixes, but the unexpected hit was the song “Cups”. Kendrick’s character auditioned for the Barden Bellas with a rendition of “Cups”, which she performed with the clapping game known as the cup game, using it as percussion.

Anna Kendrick's Pitch Perfect Singing Is Even More Impressive Than You Realize

Anna Kendrick’s a cappella singing in Pitch Perfect is already impressive, but it’s even more because she often refused to prerecord vocals, which is a common practice in musical movies. Speaking to Collider in 2012, Kendrick shared that she was insistent that, whenever she had to sing alone in the movie, she sang live on set, and she thought that “something is a little bit lost in the recording studio” and didn’t feel comfortable prerecording her songs. Pitch Perfect’s songs and performances are even better when learning about the actors’ preparation for their roles, and in Anna Kendrick’s case, her professionalism and talent made Beca an unforgettable character with incredible skills – no wonder why she was key in leading the Barden Bellas to victory.
