Annihilus has a rich history in the Marvel Universe, starting with his debut in 1968’s Fantastic Four Annual #6. The ruler of the extradimensional Negative Zone, Annihilus has been a Thanos took a peek into Annihilus' mind, and even he was shocked by what he found.

The ruler of a hive-mind the size of a galaxy, Annihilus is a true cosmic being, and his mind is so strange and powerful that even Thanos - who has commanded the full power of reality - struggles to interact with it for more than a moment. Annihilus is significantly different from Thanos not just in intent but in his nature as an inhuman creature. Thanos is from another planet, but he has human concerns, where Annihilus has thoughts and motivations that mammals literally can't understand.

While Thanos is a horrifying zealot pursuing interests beyond what most mortals could dream of, Annihilus is an ultra-powerful insect gnawing at the very fabric of the universe. It's not often the Mad Titan comes up against an enemy he can't understand, but when it came to the ruler of the Negative Zone, he found himself overpowered.
