Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Chasm: The Curse of Kaine #4! There are a great number of established superhero groups in Marvel Comics, and the thing that usually defines them is their shared interest in truth, justice, and general heroism. But, there’s also a fair number of individual Marvel superheroes who have another shared interest, one that’s decidedly less conventional. And now, this dedicated group of heroes has another ‘member’, as Marvel names one more superhero who is a self-proclaimed furry.

In a preview for Chasm: The Curse of Kaine #4 by Steve Foxe and Andrea Broccardo, Kaine Parker (aka the new Scarlet Spider) and Ben Reilly (aka the former Scarlet Spider, now known as Chasm) are battling the sadistic Eternal, Druig, and his army of mind-controlled Moloids - and they’re not alone. Another hero fighting Druig’s forces is Chasm’s girlfriend, Hallows’ Eve, and she has a superpower Ben is a fan of (for more reasons than one).

Hallows’ Eve has the power to shape enchanted masks that offer her unique superpowers depending on which one she wears. During this battle, Hallows’ Eve puts on a mask that grants her the ability to transform into a ferocious cat-person, and as such, she tears through the enemy forces with terrifying ease. When her boyfriend sees her do this, Chasm comments, “You know how weirdly sexy I find your kitty-cat form”.

Spider-Man’s Clone, Ben Reilly is Marvel Comics’ Newest Furry

Chasm is Far From the Only Furry in Marvel Comics

It seems Ben Reilly is attracted to Hallows’ Eve when she takes the form of an anthropomorphic cat. Based on what defines one as a furry (someone with an important emotional/spiritual connection with an animal or animals, real, fictional, or symbolic), Ben’s comments land him firmly within that category - and he’s not the only one. There are a number of Marvel Comics heroes who have self-identified as furries. Enough, in fact, to practically have their own team.

In the Deadpool/Wolverine crossover event Weapon X-Traction, it’s revealed that there’s a universe where both heroes are anthropomorphic animals - basically their permanent fursonas - and someone calls Nightcrawler a ‘furry’ as an insult, but Kurt clarifies that he actually is a furry, itting that he thinks “their parties are magnificent”. So, Marvel has established that Nightcrawler, Deadpool, and one set of Deadpool and Wolverine variants are canonically furries, and it just added one more with Ben Reilly.

Should Marvel Comics Lean Into This ‘Furry Superhero Team’?

The fact that a number of superheroes are canonically furries gives Marvel the chance to lean into this idea and give them a full-fledged team-up book - and the story writes itself. Perhaps Chasm, Nightcrawler, original Deadpool and the Deadpool and Wolverine variants meet at a furry convention when trouble breaks out, and they have to spring into action to save the day. Truthfully, putting their furry interests aside, this would be a pretty stacked team, as it would have a Spider-Man-like hero, variants of unkillable living weapons (who are extra deadly as animals), and one of the X-Men’s deadliest .

An iconic Marvel movie hero was actually named after a hard-rock song from the '90s, and she isn't the only MCU star whose name was inspired by music.

The stage is set for a storyline revolving around Marvel’s many furry superheroes, one that would actually have a pretty stacked team. But, even if Marvel decides not to pull the trigger on this potential crossover, it’s still worth noting that these superheroes do exist, and that there’s one more of them, as Ben Reilly aka Chasm is the latest Marvel Comics superhero to it that he’s a furry.
