The following contains spoilers for Another Simple Favor.Another Simple Favor's ending, it turns out Emily's triplet, Charity, who didn't die at birth and was raised by Aunt Linda, conspired to kill Dante (Michele Morrone).
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feig revealed his original plan for the movie. He explained that Dante staged his own death in the original script and planned on framing Emily. In that scenario, the movie became more of a road trip, where Emily had to "be undercover" to solve the mystery. Check out his comment below:
In the original script, Dante was more of a bad guy. It turned out that he was a bad guy and he staged his death, and they had to go on the run because Emily was like, 'They're going to kill me. He set me up to look like I killed him."
It was a really fun script, more of a caper. It had a lot of things where Emily had to be undercover, so she was dressing like a nun and dressing like a normal person. I was like, 'I don't know if any of us want Emily to dress like a normal person.' It had them running through Naples and Rome, and we decided to keep it more contained and bring the body count up much higher.
What This Means For Another Simple Favor
Another Simple Favor Was Nearly A Different Movie
Feig's alternate ending was drastically different from what later became Another Simple Favor's plot. The movie opens with Stephanie Smothers being the primary suspect in Dante's death and a target for Charity due to her affection/obsession with Emily/Hope. Dante, on the other hand, married Hope so that he could be with his gay lover, Matteo Bartolo, but sadly became Charity's second victim after she killed Emily/Hope's ex-husband, Sean (Henry Golding).

Why Emily Isn't In Prison In Another Simple Favor
Blake Lively's Emily returns for a new adventure with Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) in Another Simple Favor, but how did she get out of prison to do so?
One of the highlights in Another Simple Favor was the introduction of Charity, who answered for her crimes as Emily at the movie's ending. In the same interview, he also explained how Charity potentially set up a threequel by teasing that she's a "loose cannon," and that there are "lots of places for her to go." Though initially opposed to making a follow-up movie, the director is very open to another Simple Favor movie, sharing that "there's much more fun to be had with these characters."
Our Take On Another Simple Favor's Alternate Ending
Charity And Stephanie Wouldn't Have Shone As Brightly
The alternate ending would nearly eliminate Kendrick's role as a co-lead in Another Simple Favor and tip the balance between her and Lively instead of keeping the two female characters at the center, which was what A Simple Favor. The alternate ending would also essentially tell an entirely different story from the one we see in the sequel.
Instead of following up on Emily's twisted past and Stephanie's attempt to solve murders, the movie revolves almost entirely around Dante and Hope. More importantly, if Dante faked his death, the movie wouldn't be able to set up Charity as the "loose cannon" and the more eccentric twin, which in turn, would work against Another Simple Favor's franchise potential.
