Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania looks like it will be an emotional entry for the MCU when it finally hits theaters in February, inevitably bringing with it the heroic demises of several beloved characters. The Ant-Man sequel will not only be kicking off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but will also introduce Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, the ultimate villain of the Multiverse Saga, setting up his return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. As the MCU's tiniest heroes face off against one of the franchises' most powerful villains, there will certainly be one or more casualties to punctuate Kang's long-awaited arrival.

Although many theories suggest that Ant-Man will die in Quantumania, Marvel Studios has confirmed very little about the film. The two trailers released for the movie so far have teased that Scott Lang and his friends will become stuck in the Quantum Realm, where they will run across Kang and his armies. While the trailers do lend themselves to the theories that Scott will meet his untimely demise at the hands of Kang, one ing character is conspicuously absent from most of the film's promotional material, implying that they, too, may meet their end by the time the credits roll.

All The Evidence That Hank Pym Will Die In Quantumania

Hank Pym looking serious in Ant-Man

Hank Pym has barely appeared in the Quantumania trailers so far, implying that his role in the film may be very small, perhaps hinting at his death. With he and the rest of Quantumania's cast becoming the first MCU characters to meet Kang, there is little chance that they will all emerge from the film alive. The near-total absence of Michael Douglas's character in the recent trailers certainly seems to forebode his impending doom in his next appearance, perhaps even dying soon after finding himself trapped in the Quantum Realm alongside his family and thereby becoming the first victim of Kang's renewed conquest.

Certain trailer details also hint at someone close to Janet van Dyne paying the price for her secret history with Kang. The most recent trailer for Quantumania revealed that the former Wasp is quite familiar with the Conqueror already, hinting that Janet van Dyne may have worked for Kang in the past. If this is the case, it is quite possible that Kang will be looking to get revenge on Janet for her apparent betrayal, escaping the Quantum Realm while leaving him trapped. When Kang comes for his pound of flesh, there are few victims dearer to Janet's heart than her husband, with whom she only just reunited.

Ant-Man And The Wasp Need To Move On From Hank Pym

Hope and Hank clutch each other's hands as they look expectantly at something offscreen

As tragic as it may be, the Ant-Man franchise is ready to move away from Hank Pym. After starring as the wise mentor figure in three films, Hank's arc is coming to a natural ending point, leaving Scott and Hope to become mentors figures of their own, especially as Cassie Lang embraces her Stature persona. The point has come in the Hero's Journey wherein the central characters, Ant-Man and the Wasp, must brave the perils of the world without the aid of a mentor, finally earning their place within the franchise as a result. It is only through Hank's death that these two Avengers can claim their prescribed heroic positions.

Hank's death would also provide true personal stakes to Ant-Man's battle with Kang the Conqueror, giving him a reason to attempt to bring down the Multiversal supervillain. To build investment in Ant-Man and Kang's battle, the two characters must develop a believable rivalry with true emotional stakes. Although trailers have hinted at the reason for Kang and Ant-Man's battle, one likely possibility is that the Conqueror took the life of someone Scott loved. If Hank does die during the events of the film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is already shaping up to be one of the most tragic installments of the MCU yet.
