In 2020, Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made and its alleged curse was made available to the public for streaming. Interviewees in the mockumentary portion of the film tie it to nearly sixty deaths and counting. By the end of it, the audience is told by occult specialists that Antrum features over one-hundred and fifty subliminal satanic symbols. The entire film is a mystery, especially its name and the looming presence of the deity Baphomet.

Antrum follows two siblings named Oralee and Nathan as they travel into the depths of a supernatural forest to rescue their dog from the pit of hell. According to Oralee, the devil landed in the forest and chose that exact spot to create the gates to his kingdom. Throughout the film’s entirety, the audience is subjected to intense and disturbing imagery meant to induce feelings of unease.

In fact, the name of the film is actually a reference to the plot and the specific area where fear is meant to be felt when viewing it. The definition of antrum refers to a cavity surrounded by bone. In this instance, it means the lower part of the stomach. During intense moments of fear, the feeling of one's stomach flip flopping is common; Antrum hopes to induce this feeling in the viewer. Even further than that, Baphomet’s connection to the term makes the film even more horrific than it already is.

Baphomet’s Connection To Antrum Explained

Antrum Baphomet Fire Pit

In the film, Baphomet appears throughout its entirety. The most obvious connection the deity has to Antrum is during a scene where the siblings stumble upon a campsite with a fire pit shaped as Baphomet. While a fire burns below, the stomach opens up to burn whatever people decide to place inside of it. The connection between the name of the film and the fire pit sculpture is almost obvious; Baphomet’s antrum burns like hellfire.

Baphomet is a devil. Antrum’s continued use of the icon is to emphasize the darkness that surrounds the forest as well as the hell that awaits the siblings. In fact, Nathan is thrown into the stomach of Baphomet when the siblings are taken from their campsite. They anticipate he will burn to death in the symbolic belly of the beast, or its antrum.

The allegedly cursed found footage film is filled with an overabundance of imagery that requires multiple viewings to decipher, as it's all laced within intricate clues and metaphor. Antrum’s most secretive symbol was hidden in its name the entire time, and only deepened in meaning through the presence of the deity Baphomet throughout the film.
