Not one game, but three, are included in the remastered Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, offering a combined total of over 90 hours of mysteries and courtroom drama for sleuthing players to enjoy. Capcom's remastered trilogy featuring Phoenix Wright's prodigy includes Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice, along with many extras and updates. For the $50 price tag, evidence would show that there is a lot of entertainment value to be had in these courtroom text adventures.
The first in the collection, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, is set seven years after Phoenix Wright's last infamous case. A young, rookie defense attorney by the name of Apollo Justice steps up for his first trial, a murder. Both of the subsequent games follow, giving an overview of Apollo's career and his time learning under Mr. Wright and the colorful cast of characters that enter the courtroom with them. Both in the courtroom and outside of it, players must investigate murders and solve mysteries by piecing together evidence to clear the client of wrongdoing.

No Objections To The Trilogy's Remastered Stories And Flow
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Is Enjoyable For All
Originally, the three games were released for the Nintendo 3DS and although Apollo's name is only in one of the titles, he is a particular focus of each of the games in this collection. Capcom has combined the three titles into one set that flows well, with an easy-to-use navigation sequence and updated HD graphics that make the text adventures come to life. The three games in the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy are as follows:
Title |
Original Release |
Description |
---|---|---|
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney |
2008 |
Apollo Justice is a rookie attorney making his debut in the courtroom by defending Phoenix Wright in a murder trial. Aided by Mr. Wright's magic-loving teenage daughter, Trucy, Apollo defends several cases over a few months, each with an interesting twist. |
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies |
2013 |
Phoenix Wright takes the stage again, following an explosive accident that injures Apollo. Apollo and his new partner, Athena Cykes, go on to pursue justice while bringing an end to the "Dark Age of the Law". |
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice |
2016 |
Phoenix and Apollo work together from opposite ends of the world to solve a mystery bigger than everyone. |
Apollo's unique, special power of deduction is similar to Phoenix Wright's magical Magatama, but is something he was born with and which only one other living being seemed to possess. He, and the player, learn about this power throughout the first game and then uses it as a clever gameplay element throughout the trilogy. His own background and history comes to light through the twists of story in surprising ways.
While the Apollo Justice game is a fun jumping-off point to not only discovering who Apollo is and how the courtroom text dramas work, it can also be a slow-moving game with some frustrating obstacles when players get stuck. The next two games, Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice, provide better ways to keep moving forward with helpful hints from partners, yet the fun of the challenge and mystery remains.
Changes Made To The Switch Version Of The Games In The Apollo Justice Trilogy
Graphics Updates, Quality-Of-Life Improvements, And Extra Content
The stories of each of the games remain unchanged, other than the HD graphical updates and the inclusion of two Special Episodes which previously were DLC for the games. In addition to the DLC Special Episodes, the trilogy adds colorful costumes for the characters that were only available as pre-order specials of the original game or were previously paid content. These sometimes wacky costumes can add a lot of levity to serious trials.
To make the games easier to manage, there is a very simple Games Menu where players can select whichever chapter of any game they would like to see. There is also an Autoplay Story Mode which can make selections and solve puzzles for the player if they choose to toggle this feature on, so they can just sit back and watch the drama unfold.
Special Contents added to the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy collection include an Orchestral Hall with soundtracks from the Ace Attorney 15th Anniversary Orchestra Concert and the Ace Attorney 2019 Orchestra Concert, providing a total of 175 tracks that feature chibi character illustrations dancing to the music. An art library with beautiful background art and character designs as well as an animation studio have also been added.

No Need To Play Phoenix Wright Games First
The Apollo Justice Trilogy Could Be A Good Entry To The Franchise
For someone who has never experienced a Phoenix Wright game before, the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is not overwhelming or disorienting. The games do a wonderful job of introducing the cast of characters and gameplay mechanics, as well as simply explaining the history of Phoenix Wright and what needs to be understood. If anything, playing this trilogy may entice someone to want to go back and try the previous titles, simply because of the fun they have with Apollo.
Let The Record Show: Final Thoughts And Review Score
4/5
Each of the three games included in this remastered trilogy may feature the same story as their originals, yet the quality brought to the Nintendo Switch collection is worth a look. Those who may have missed the games the first time around, or who have never played any Phoenix Wright title will enjoy the narratives where each mystery is beautifully written and intriguing in its subtlety. The evidence suggests that the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is well worth the many hours of gameplay included, and is only guilty of being a wonderfully remade collection of mysteries.
