A modder has turned their Apple's smartphones and computers remain popular worldwide, even though the company is often criticized for not using standard ports and connectors on its devices. However, modders are now taking matters into their own hands and adding much-wanted features to these devices by themselves.

Late last year, a Swiss YouTuber named Ken Pillonel The phone was later put on sale on eBay, where people were reportedly willing to pay up to $90,000 to get their hands on it.

In a series of videos posted on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) and Weibo, DIY enthusiast Yang Changshun explained how he modified a standard iPhone 13 Pro Max with several new hardware features not offered by Apple. Changshun calls it the iPhone 13 Pro Max 'Ultra,' and it includes a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone socket, dual fans for better thermal dissipation, and a larger battery for enhanced battery life. He also added louder speakers to the device for good measure. However, Changshun had to attach another case on top of the metal frame to carry out all the changes, making the device twice as thick as a regular iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Interestingly, with all the changes incorporated into the device, it not only continues to perform flawlessly but also scores higher in some benchmark tests. According to Changshun, it delivers significantly higher scores in the AnTuTu benchmark than a standard iPhone 13 Pro Max. For example, while the modified device scores 870,244, a regular iPhone 13 Pro Max could only notch up 715,809.

It's not immediately clear what that difference can be attributed to, but it could be the added cooling fans that are keeping the thermals in check and helping the processor work overtime without being throttled. While the modified device is not much of a looker, it outperforms an already fast phone by quite a margin, which is impressive. Plus, it also comes with added functionality, louder speakers, and improved battery life, all of which make it not only a unique device but a pretty desirable one, too.
