A new year often means a brand new line of upgraded Apple products will be launched. Every year, many people rush to the web once they hear of the new set of iPhone rumors. In the past, there have been many new items that have excited the most loyal smartphone fans, such as longer battery life (that no one would say exactly no to).
With the iPhone 13 set to be released soon, a new wave of rumors have been released, giving the world a hint of what could potentially be included next. Thanks to the internet and various YouTube channels, fans don't have to go far to find out what they can expect from the iPhone 13 later this year.
Smaller Notch
Ever since the iPhone X was released back in 2017, reviewers have been speculating that a smaller notch will come with each subsequent iPhone. However, none have delivered. The current size notch is noticeable when people are watching videos full screen. Apple knew this would be an issue and thankfully, most videos watched on the iPhone can be zoomed out or have the original size (where the notch is not visible).
smaller notch, but a notch must still exist in order to house the front-facing camera. The only way for this to be possible is if Apple finds a way to include it under the screen like the ZTE Action 20.
In Screen Touch-ID
Apple got rid of touch ID with the iPhone X, replacing it with FaceID. Some of the newer iPad models have a TouchID sensor on the lock button. However, according to Wall Street Journal, Apple's next iPhone could include an in-screen TouchID sensor to bring fingerprint security scanning to the newer iPhone models without the button.
Is this likely? Perhaps. Apple justified the lack of a home button with the new much larger screen size. There were very little to no issues with TouchID either so if Apple can find a way to have their cake and eat it too, there's no reason that they couldn't have a below-the-screen fingerprint scanner. Unless the screen cracks that is...
1TB Storage
Apple have increased the size of their iPhone memory so much that s can now buy a 512GB iPhone if they desire. Well, according to YouTube Channel Front Page Tech, Apple is bringing a 1TB version to the next generation of iPhone.
The question to ask is, unless you shoot a lot of videos with your iPhone in high quality, is 1TB really necessary? Perhaps not, but knowing that you have 1TB to use up is always comforting. There's no reason to doubt that a 1TB iPhone will come around at some point, but will it be as soon as this year?
Camera Upgrades
More and more people are using all kinds of smart-phones to take photos every day. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the Ultra-Wide camera in the iPhone will feature a f/1.8 six-element lens as opposed to the current f/2.4 aperture 5-element lens on the current iPhone 12 pro and 12 pro max.
The difference between the picture quality on the current 12 pro and 12 pro max cameras is not nearly noticeable enough to warrant the extra cash. However, Barclays (through MacRumours) is also reporting that this new camera upgrade will be spread across all models on the 2021 iPhone, meaning that people won't have to take out a small loan to get the best camera quality.
Better MagSafe
When MagSafe was announced last year to be included with the iPhone 12 models, it didn't take long for some people to realize how poor the quality of the magnet was. When s are holding the phone, there are no issues. However, if you happen to have, say, the MagSafe wallet on the back of the phone, it can easily slip off when the phone goes into your pocket.
According to YouTube channel EverythingApplePro, the iPhone could feature a stronger MagSafe magnet, meaning that people won't lose their credit cards on the street when they are putting their phone away.
Better Battery
The battery life in the latest iPhones is not bad by any means, especially with optimized charging, with CNet tests showing 12 and 15 hours for the iPhone 12 and 12 pro respectively. However, there are other non-Apple phones that also showed much longer battery lives, such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 lasting 22 hours during the same test.
Even though the battery isn't bad, no iPhone (or any phone) would say no to longer battery life and this is what Ming-Chi Kuo is reporting later in the year.
120Hz Display
Fans were probably hoping that the iPhone 12 models would get an upgraded 120Hz display, at least in the Pro models. But, sadly, there was no such upgrade. Once again fans are hoping that the 120Hz will be introduced in this year's models.
According to Tom's Guide, 120Hz is again on the cards and it probably will be every year until it actually happens. Apple may have realized that a 120Hz will warrant the need for a better battery that will last a good amount of time when pushing the 120Hz display.
No Delays
Last year, due to the pandemic, many industry releases were put on hold including movies, TV shows, and even the production of the iPhone 12. The production of the iPhone 12 lineup was behind by 1-2 months but MacRumours is suggesting that it could be released sometime this year, depending on the circumstances.
LiDAR On All Models
Apple announced the addition of LiDAR to the back of the iPhone 12 pro and 12 pro max models at the end of last year, which helped with any and all features that used depth sensors, such as the camera or even VR tools.
DigiTimes has suggested that the LiDAR scanner will be available on all iPhone 13 models. However, Barclays analysts have said it will remain only as a feature on the 13 and 13 pro models. This is certainly a feature for enthusiasts but not necessarily for everyday iPhone s.
Price
Over the last few years, all of Apple's highest spec versions of their iPhones (the Pro Max of their generations) have all come in at roughly $1099 while the second top tier phones (the Pro's) started at $999, and the third top tier phones at $799.
MacWorld states that this will repeat itself again with the 13 starting at $799. If fans are lucky, the 13 will be the same launch price as the 11 at $699, but don't hold out too much hope.
