The Murderbot Diaries series consists of seven novels, although it is yet to be confirmed whether the Apple TV show will follow chronologically from the first book, All Systems Red. Presuming it is, that means Murderbot could run for at least seven seasons, with each installment covering the events of one book. Finally getting a well-deserved book-to-TV adaptation filled with action, drama, and the eerieness of sci-fi, there are plenty of brilliant moments from the books that need to be included in Murderbot.

8 Amena's Anticlimactic Hookup

Network Effect

In the fifth novel, Network Effect, Murderbot is accompanied by several allies on a research expedition, including Dr. Mensah's daughter, Amena. Before the events of the book truly unravel, it's known that Amena and Murderbot's relationship is a little one-sided, mainly because of Amena's frustrations with Mensah asking Murderbot to keep an eye out on her. While she was the youngest member of the Preservation Alliance, she was still a grown woman and found this patronizing.

But, one hilarious moment broke some tension between the two, with Amena finding a hookup and visiting their place, unaware that they were possibly a corporate spy. However, after stumbling about in the dark and the anticipation of intimacy filling the air, the flights flick on, and Amena finds Murderbot waiting for her. While this was shown through the written word, it's easy to picture Amena's face dropping, something that would be hysterical to see in the Apple TV show.

7 Plans To Bomb The Colony

Network Effect

Another great moment from Network Effect came in an interaction between Iris and Perihelion. Perihelion's crew makes plans to reach the Lost Colony to protect them from the corporation Barish-Estranza, but get captured on the way. Later in the book, they are saved by Murderbot, but, in turn, they get captured. Trying to rescue their protector, the advanced bot-pilot Perihelion attempts to bomb the colony to argue Murderbot's release, but when Iris tries to stop this, Perihelion bluntly replies, "You are incorrect, Iris, I can bomb the colony," in such a matter-of-fact way, it's hard not to find funny.

6 Murderbot's Social Awareness

Network Effect

Throughout all seven books, there are several moments where Murderbot struggles to read social cues, which makes sense considering it is an android. Network Event saw multiple moments like this, but one stands out in a brief yet wholesome interaction between the titular character and ART, Murderbot's pet name for Perihelion. Knowing Mensah is arriving for a visit, ART frequently begins cleaning and gets excited in preparation, something Murderbot finds odd and struggles to understand. Despite both being robotic, this gave the two characters a great slice-of-life moment and showed the small human aspects they possess.

5 Murderbot's Space Trip

Fugitive Telemetry

In the sixth book, Fugitive Telemetry, which serves as a prequel to Network Effect, Murderbot finds itself having to venture into space to try and rescue a group of refugees. Murderbot then takes a "rescue dinghy," a large bubble-like structure, from the Space Station into the darkness, floating among the stars. This moment would be a great opportunity for Apple TV to show off some beautiful cinematography, but also because it's the calm before the storm, and once Murderbot reaches its destination, one of the series' biggest fights breaks out between it and the bounty hunters holding the refugees hostage.

4 Murderbot And Its TV Show

Artificial Condition

The book cover of Artificial Condition by Martha Wells

After meeting ART, Murderbot introduced the concept of binge-worthy TV shows to ART and its crew, notably its favorite show, The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon. Murderbot's determination to keep up with its favorite serial drama provided some great moments for the character, adding an element of humanity to the android. This same obsession slowly creeps into the other characters, who get invested in the show.

For example, in Artificial Condition, ART takes inspiration from one episode, forming an idea to send a shuttle of unconscious humans to the RaviHyral mining facility. In the same book, Murderbot also makes comments about having seen certain episodes before, one an incredible 27 times. Seeing the crew kicking back to watch TV in the Murderbot would be an interesting way to split up its action-packed sequences, and possibly give the show a meta edge, by having a show within a show.

3 Mensah's Words Of Reassurance

Exit Strategy

Noma Dumezweni as a private investigator in The Watcher

In Exit Strategy, Murderbot is injured after helping Mensah escape GrayCris. Throughout the book, Murderbot starts to find that its programming isn't as simple as what was once thought, and struggles with emotions, which makes this interaction between it and Mensah even more emotional. Murderbot ensures that Mensah hasn't a clue what it really is, but the woman tackles the rogue android with empathy, telling it, "I know exactly what you are. You're afraid, you're hurt, and you need to calm the f*ck down," in a hauntingly beautiful moment that would be just as impactful in the TV show.

2 The RaviHyral Massacre

Artificial Condition

Three Fembots from Austin Powers dressed in silver bikinis.

Artificial Condition saw one particularly emotional moment, in which the ComfortUnits are destroyed trying to stop the massacre of the RaviHyral facility. The ComfortUnits, while more intelligent than the SecUnits, were unarmed, but still tried to save whoever they could. Although the ComfortUnits aren't human, the love that can be felt from them in this age of the book is simply heartbreaking. This powerful scene could be just as incredibly impactful in the Murderbot TV show, with audiences seeing various ComfortUnits attempting to rescue the humans trapped in the control center and blocking the rogue SecUnits to buy Murderbot time.

1 Murderbot Loses Its Mind

System Collapse

This image shows a closeup of the System Collapse cover.

In System Collapse, Murderbot once again faces some glitches. In the depths of its memories, one particular event is marked as "redacted," which troubles Murderbot, concerned as to why it's unable to what happened. This results in its performance suffering, panic attacks, hallucinations, and even its internal narration faltering. With The Muderbot Diaries written from the first person point of view of Murderbot, this storyline could be an interesting challenge for the Apple TV show to try to replicate, especially if a directional choice is made not to have Skarsgård provide voiceover narration for the character.
