Warning! Absolute Power: Task Force VII #2!The DC Universe's twisted new all-Amazo squad Task Force VII to de-power them. Now the World's Strangest Heroes are seeing what life is like without their abilities.

In a preview for Absolute Power: Task Force VII #2 by John Layman and Max Raynor, Robotman finds Elasti-Woman recovering from a fight. Cliff reminds Rita that they had discovered Aquaman in the middle of a fight with an Amazo. The Doom Patrol rushed in, only to be hit by a strange attack from the android.

Beast Girl tries to use her emotion-influencing power on Elasti-Woman and concludes the Doom Patrol no longer has access to their powers. Negative Man confirms that he's powerless as well, unwrapping his specially-treated bandages and marveling at the lack of radioactivity coming from him.

The Doom Patrol Have Lost Their Strange Powers

Unstoppable Doom Patrol 4 Cover Therapy DC

Amanda Waller has been working to bring the DC Universe's metahumans down for months and thanks to acquiring a few powerful assets, she had everything she needed. Using the Brainiac Queen to generate manipulated video showing DC's metahumans going wild, Waller flushed the world's most powerful heroes out into the open. Once they were in place, Waller unleashed Task Force VII, a team composed of Amazos and led by Batman's ultimate contingency Failsafe. One by one, the heroes of the DCU were attacked by the Amazos and de-powered. Those who didn't manage to escape were hauled off to Waller's prison for metahumans.

During the initial wave, Green Arrow pointed out that these Amazos were different and that any powers that were stolen weren't coming back. For Elasti-Woman and Beast Girl, that's pretty bad, but at least Robotman at least got off easy. Negative Man, on the other hand, has come out of this the best. Sure, he doesn't seem to be able to access the Negative Spirit anymore, but he also doesn't seem to be radioactive (a good fringe benefit to losing his powers). If this new dynamic is indeed permanent, then the Doom Patrol is probably going to fare alright.

The Doom Patrol Can Still Help in This New World

Doom Patrol and Quiz Attack DC

The Doom Patrol may be powerless, but they're not helpless. They've faced worse odds than this and have even stopped several god-level threats not with their powers, but with their cleverness. Sure, Rita's giant form or the Negative Spirit would be nice, but the Doom Patrol was made to take on the most dire situations and every time, they've come out alright. As long as they've got their plucky spirit and Robotman is as indestructible as ever, DC's evil, new Aquaman can't crush the spirit of the Doom Patrol.

Absolute Power: Task Force VII #2 is available on July 24th from DC Comics.
