Aquaman became the subject of many jokes for his fairly simple powers, but in reality he has become massively powerful throughout the years as his powers evolved, to the point where he could basically be a god. With each new addition to his abilities, Arthur has progressed to become a mainstay in the DC Universe. He's been a welcome addition to the Justice League and was even one of the founding , pivotal to the team's development and advancement to be a force for good that citizens can look upon for help.
Alongside his wife, Mera, he rules Atlantis with a watchful gaze and protects both his city and the surface above. Born to both, Aquaman has a unique power set that's a little different from normal Atlanteans and gives him a wider range of abilities to unlock. He's most known for his ability to manipulate water from the ocean and his ability to communicate telepathically to the ocean animals, but these two powers have become so much more than what they are initially presented as.
When he was first introduced in More Fun Comics #73 by Gardner Fox, Howard Sherman, and Mort Weisinger, Aquaman was the sole protector of Atlantis, whose powers were whimsical but simple. He couldn't do much with the ability to control water outside the ocean, but as time went on his power level has risen exponentially. Aquaman was launched into space one day in Action Comics #530 by Rob Rozakis, Shelly Leferman, Alex Saviuk, Tom Ziuko, and Frank Chiaramonte. While many might assume that Aquaman would be useless, he proved to be quite the opposite and was able to use his powers to control water on an alien world. As long as he has access to a sea — no matter which planet he's on — his powers are as strong and active as ever.
Aquaman Can Be A Space Dweller
This isn't the only instance Aquaman has used his powers that intensely, in fact, his telepathic abilities evolved past aquatic creatures to even effect beings who even just evolved from ocean dwelling creatures. He even once took control of Superman himself, rendering him powerless in DC Comics Presents #48 by Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn, Irv Novick, Frank McLauglin, Ben Oda, Gene D'Angelo, and Julius Schwartz. While impressive, the main power comes from the punch he packs behind his absolute control over any planet's oceans. Having this ability stops limiting Aquaman to the Earth's oceans and lets him deal with galactic level threats alongside his fellow Justice League.
Aquaman's dominion over all bodies of water in the galaxy opens his powers to become even greater than what they are and puts him on the level of his fellow heroes. Using this power, Aquaman's access to it elevates his powers even farther than what they were to the point that he can even see through the eyes of a sea creature galaxies away.
Aquaman's abilities may be simple, but they have the potential to be incredibly powerful and give him access to all new, but interesting concepts. With his powers, Arthur has accomplished a lot more than initially believed he could. Aquaman has reached a level of godhood not often achieved by the standard hero.
