WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers For DC Vs. Vampires: World War V #1!The best-selling Aquaman sporting his most brutal look yet that eclipses even his 90s harpoon hand. This new design, paired with Arthur Curry embracing his villain era, might even remind fans of an iconic DC villain. Hint: He only has one eye.
It’s particularly intriguing that both the 90s and the DC vs. Vampires designs involve Aquaman losing a body part.
DC vs. Vampires: World War V #1 by Matthew Rosenberg, Otto Schmidt, and Pierluigi Casolino brilliantly raises the stakes in this Elseworlds epic, escalating the two-sided war between vampires and humans into a three-way conflict. Oliver "Green Arrow" Queen’s human resistance, Barbara "Batgirl" Gordon’s vampire army, and Damian "Robin" Wayne’s vampire guerrilla fighters are now all pitted against each other.
While previous DC vs. Vampires installments centered on the reign of the now-deceased Vampire King, Dick "Nightwing" Grayson, World War V delivers the much-anticipated exploration of Batgirl’s rule. This exploration introduces the iconic, now-vampiric Justice League member, Aquaman, who serves as one of her lieutenants.

Aquaman’s DC vs. Vampires Redesign Is Even More Hardcore Than His 90s Harpoon Hand
This version of Arthur Curry is unlike any seen before—shockingly intense and undeniably badass. The King of Atlantis has abandoned his iconic orange and green suit in favor of a new, predominantly black ensemble, accented with red and green and featuring a golden Aquaman insignia on the belt. Adding to the impact of this redesign is the implication that Arthur has lost one of his eyes, as suggested by an eyepatch and severe scarring. Together with the darker suit, the scarring, and his unnaturally pale complexion, this redesign propels Aquaman to an entirely new level of intensity.
Redeg Aquaman to be even more brutal than his iconic 90s harpoon hand is exceptionally commendable, especially given that the harpoon hand was previously considered his most hardcore look. It’s particularly intriguing that both the 90s and the DC vs. Vampires designs involve Arthur losing a body part. It will be interesting to see if the DC vs. Vampires narrative explores how Arthur lost his eye, as this could lead to an incredibly badass and entertaining story, especially since it’s likely he lost his eye before becoming a vampire.
Arthur Curry’s New Vampire Look Is Giving Slade “Deathstroke” Wilson Vibes
Despite being a completely original look for Aquaman, this redesign inevitably evokes comparisons to Deathstroke the Terminator—the DC villain famously known for his missing eye. Like Slade, Arthur wears an eyepatch to cover his missing eye and sports long, lank hair pulled back into a ponytail, a style also associated with the mercenary. The similarities extend further, as Arthur adopts a bad attitude reminiscent of Slade’s own. It’s a shame Deathstroke died in DC vs. Vampires: All-Out War, as it would have been entertaining to see his reaction to Aquaman mirroring his look and demeanor.
