For over ten years now, the animated sitcom Archer has been entertaining viewers with its sharp wit and exciting action scenes. Over the seasons, fans have seen the core group of characters go through many changes in their lives.
They have worked at a spy agency, become criminals that sell cocaine, started their own private investigation agency, and even played different characters inside of Sterling Archer's mind. Regardless of where they were or what they were doing, every member of the core group has remained hilarious. But some are more comical than others, which begs the question, who's the funniest?
Woodhouse
Poor Woodhouse. Before his ing, he was a loyal servant to Archer, doing pretty much everything he was asked, despite being constantly mistreated by Sterling. However, it was hard not to laugh at the hilarious ways Sterling used to punish any slight mistake Woodhouse made, like when he would throw his clothes off the balcony.
Those scenes were the funniest that the servant was a part of as the character wasn't very comical. However, the main reason he never showed much of a humorous side was that he was rarely allowed to speak. Some of his drug antics were fun, though.
Lana Kane
With her strong-will and impressive combat capabilities, Lana Kane is one of the most badass characters on the show. Yet, she isn't among the funniest.
Her (usually) serious nature means she often acts as a foil for the more outrageous characters, instead of providing jokes herself. Although, she's not devoid of humor as there are times when she delivers sarcastic comments or gets angry with her coworkers, which can be very funny.
Cyril Figgis
Cyril Figgis usually comes off as a whiny, underhanded person, but he still brings plenty of laughs to the show. Much like Woodhouse, a lot of Cyril's funniest scenes come when he is being mistreated by other characters. But not all of his humorous misfortune is caused by his coworkers, as his general incompetence creates problems too.
He also has a flurry of running jokes throughout the series, such as when he screams "SUPPRESSING FIRE!!!" while inaccurately firing his gun, his sex addict shenanigans, and the times where he shows supreme confidence after achieving any modicum of success.
Ray Gillette
The darkest running gag in the show is how Ray Gillette regularly loses the ability to walk. Throughout the series, he keeps injuring his spine and legs, which puts him in a wheelchair for a while. It even happens after he acquires bionic legs, due to their U getting fried. His misfortune doesn't just stop at his lower body either, as his eye also gets severely damaged at one point, and later, he loses an arm.
Thankfully, not all of his humor includes serious injury, as he also makes plenty of sarcastic and snide comments. And of course, his common reply of "you know..." when people insult him is usually hilarious too.
Malory Archer
There are several villains in the series, yet few of them are as cruel as Malory Archer. This is a woman who gave her Irish Superintendent a potato as a Christmas bonus, called a baby fat, and regularly mistreated or ignored her son when he was a child.
While these actions would've been unforgivable in real life, in a comedy series, they were funny. Along with being mean, Malory makes viewers laugh with her obsession with alcohol and her tendency to use the phrase "I will literally die" or the multiple variations of it.
Cheryl Tunt
Cheryl Tunt is the craziest character in the series, which is no easy feat on a show like Archer. Her madness ranges from unusual quirks, like loudly informing people that they're not her supervisor, to more sinister things, such as threatening to burn down buildings.
She's not the smartest either, as evidenced when she thought that chocolate mousse actually had Moose in it. Her idiocy and insanity are what makes the character so funny, as rarely does a scene go by without her doing or saying something ridiculous.
Pam Poovey
The series excels at inappropriate humor, and a great deal of it comes out of Pam Poovey's mouth. Virtually every time she appears, she makes a comment that's either overly sexual, extremely dark or both. Not to mention the character’s use of toilet humor, as her bodily functions are heard regularly during the show.
Another way Pam provides the audience with laughs is through her insults. She is great at coming up with and delivering put-downs that are as harsh as they are clever. And she has shown that she is willing to insult pretty much anyone, from her superiors to her kidnappers.
Sterling Archer
In sitcoms, the central character can sometimes be more ordinary and less comical than the others, but that is not the case with Archer. Sterling is funnier than most of the people around him. And that evident in the show's running gags, as he's got more of them than anyone else in the series, including real gems like the voicemail pranks and "Danger Zone."
But Sterling doesn't just rely on running jokes to be funny. His arrogance and self-centered nature regularly create laugh-out-loud moments too. For instance, when he wasted time complaining about Ray wearing the same turtleneck as him instead of saving Pam, who'd been kidnapped.
Dr. Krieger
Krieger is the mad scientist of the group. And his crazy experiments have been the cause of many hilarious moments, such as when he used an intern to test a bulletproof vest, and the time he mistakingly manufactured a submarine in a pool. His hologram girlfriend, Mitsuko Miyazumi, was another of his creations, and their fractious relationship provides endless entertainment.
While Krieger is known for his outlandish experiments, they aren't his only source of humor. The character is also very witty, as he frequently delivers funny little comments during episodes.
