Even though Stargirl, the Arrowverse has never looked stronger.
The Arrowverse has also introduced so many great friendships over the years, and none could be more adorable than the bond between Barry Allen and Felicity Smoak. These two scientific geniuses are brilliant together as they're just so similar to each other. However, we have to wonder, obvious adorableness aside, are they really friends or just close acquaintances?
They Used To Date
When Barry made his first-ever appearance in the Arrowverse, he was a little bit socially awkward and a total science geek, which obviously Felicity found easy to relate to. The pair really hit it off, much to Oliver Queen's chagrin and they even went on a sort of date together.
Things between the couple were heating up and they probably would have ended up together if not for Barry's love for Iris West. Afterward, the two couldn't make it work and so they agreed to be friends but still, wouldn't that be kind of awkward?
They Never Meet Up Outside Of Work
For two people who are supposed to be such good friends, they don't really meet up outside of their superhero antics. Barry is the Flash, which is kind of ironic because even with his super-speed, he still seemingly doesn't have time to meet up with Felicity for a drink and a catch-up.
Felicity spent seven years of her life helping her husband Oliver to fight crime in Star City and given that she spent a lot of her time behind a computer terming, she sure didn't have any spare time to meet up with Barry. Good friends always make time for each other.
They Don't Talk To Each Other That Often
Barry and Felicity are supposed to be really good friends, as they used to date and they've helped save the world (and the universe) together on multiple occasions. However, we haven't really seen much proof of this lately.
Long-distance friendships are possible but obviously it's difficult not to be able to talk to your friends every day. Luckily, though, that's why technology was invented. Barry and Felicity are two of the most technologically minded people in the Arrowverse so it's surprising how they don't message each other more often.
They Don't Come To Each Other With Their Problems
Since Barry and Felicity are both heroes in their own right, it's understandable that some of their problems are of the epic variety. So it makes sense that they come to each other when they need help defeating a powerful supervillain, or have accidentally changed time itself.
However, they don't come to each other with their lesser problems, which is literally what friends are there for. When Felicity broke things off with Oliver in Season 4 of Arrow, she didn't phone Barry and when Iris temporarily broke up with Barry, he didn't tell Felicity.
They Don't Ever Argue
One inevitable factor about friendship is that no matter how strong your bond is, you will always argue about something. After all, we're all different and have different views. This is healthy; if you have a friend who never disagrees with you nor you with them, then you're going to get bored pretty quickly.
Barry and Felicity have never (as far as we can tell) argued with each other. It's great that they're such similar people but it is very unusual, even in the Arrowverse, for them to agree on everything. Another reason could be is that they're just not that close to risk their friendship.
Barry Possibly Rewrote How They Met
In Season 2 of The Flash, Barry had been dealt an extremely rough hand. His friend, Jay Garrick, turned out to be evil speedster Zoom, who then stole Barry's speed. If that wasn't enough, Zoom then killed Barry's father right in front of him. After Barry defeated Zoom, he had had enough.
Barry ran back in time to the night his mother died and saved us, thus creating an alternative timeline, known as Flashpoint. Barry eventually corrected his mistake, but time was different. The best bit about friendship is the first time you meet, and Barry could have changed the first time he met Felicity.
They Inflict Danger Upon Each Other
In all fairness, being a superhero, or part of a superhero's team means you do have to face danger more than ordinary people. And it's not like Barry or Felicity don't know how to handle themselves. As their respective shows have progressed, the two characters have both evolved into capable badasses.
However, the only time that they seem to meet up is when they bring danger into the lives of the other. During the first-ever Arrowverse crossover, Team Arrow and Team Flash had to help the other fighting metahumans while placing themselves in significant peril. Friends should be able to keep each other safe.
Felicity And Oliver Hijacked Barry And Iris's Wedding
Outside of the realms of television and superheroes, hijacking two of your friends' wedding isn't considered appropriate. Barry and Iris had finally set a date and had invited all of their super friends to come and witness them exchange vows, including Oliver and Felicity, who had recently started dating again.
During the initial ceremony, the wedding was interrupted by Earth-X Nazis. However, after the crisis was averted, Barry and Iris finally got married in an intimate ceremony, along with Oliver and Felicity. Although Barry and Iris were cool with it, your wedding day is supposed to be yours alone.
Barry Never Told Felicity About Iris
When Barry and Felicity first met, they really hit it off, even going so far as to go on a semi-awkward date with each other. The most important thing, however, was that they genuinely made each other happy. Felicity even called Barry minutes before he got struck by lightning.
When Barry fell into a coma, Felicity went out to visit him for almost a week, showing that she cared a lot for him, despite only having known Barry for a short amount of time. However, when Caitlyn and Cisco made their debut, they mentioned Iris and Felicity looked visibly hurt. Or possibly jealous.
Felicity Watched Him Sleep
Okay, so this really isn't what it sounds like. Felicity is no Edward Cullen. However, when Barry was affected by the particle accelerator malfunctions, exploding, and then subsequently dousing the whole of Central City with dark matter, and causing some citizens to gain abnormal powers.
Barry was one of those affected but unlike a lot of metahumans, Barry slipped into a coma for nine months. During this time, Felicity came to visit him because she cared about him. However, all this entailed was watching him sleep. They had only known each other for a few days so perhaps Felicity had The Feelings?
