A gaming industry insider has spoken about Ubisoft's purported plans for the next titles in the Assassin's Creed franchise, including talks about a remake of the fan-favorite Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Ubisoft has not confirmed this information, and all rumors and reports should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ubisoft reports record player numbers and immensely positive fan on Assassin's Creed Shadows. Henderson also said he "wouldn't be surprised" if Hexe released in 2027, mostly due to the delays for Shadows. Again, none of this information is official, with Henderson himself saying he was "spitballing."

Everything We Know About AC Hexe & Obsidian

Ubisoft Hasn't Made Any Official Announcements About Its Games

Industry insiders have been sharing rumors about Assassin's Creed games for months, with fans particularly anxious for news about Hexe, which was originally announced in 2022. Rumors point to Hexe having a 16th century Europe setting, focusing on the hysteria surrounding witches and witchcraft. The game will reportedly have a heavier emphasis on magic and mysticism than in previous games, and the main character, rumored to be named Elsa, is said to have some form of supernatural abilities.

Insider Gaming, which claims to have been shown early footage of Hexe, reported in April 2024 that the game is more linear and less open-world than installments like Black Flag, Odyssey, and Shadows.

When you finish Assassin's Creed Shadows, there are plenty of things you can do to have fun without restarting the game and playing through again.

The existence of the reported Black Flag remake Obsidian has not been officially confirmed by Ubisoft, and any information circulating about the game is heavily based on speculation. As one of the most beloved installments in the Assassin's Creed canon, updated game and console mechanics could shed brand-new light on Black Flag (or ruin it) and potentially leave room for new DLC. If Henderson is correct about Obsidian releasing before Hexe, players might get their hands on the game sooner than they thought.

Our Take: 2025 Seems Like A Bad Choice For Another Assassin's Creed Release

Competition With Other Expected Releases Will Be Fierce

The gaming industry has seen some big announcements and mega-hit titles in 2025, and we're not even halfway through the year. While Assassin's Creed Shadows has enjoyed immense success since its launch earlier in March, the scope of the game seems to have delayed Ubisoft's production schedule. According to Henderson, Obsidian was originally slated for a 2025 release, though delays and rumored additional content for Shadows have likely pushed the Black Flag remake further into the future.

Releasing another Assassin's Creed game towards the end of the year is also extremely risky given the impending arrival of GTA 6, which will overshadow any other new games, especially a remake, if fan anticipation is anything to go by.

Ubisoft has experienced many ups and downs with Assassin's Creed, and thanks to Shadows, the company is experiencing a high point. Launching remakes and new titles so soon after such a successful release risks an underperforming game at best and a critically panned game drowning in a sea of "new" at worst. For now, we'll have to speculate along with the rest of the industry on when players can expect future Assassin's Creed content from Ubisoft.
