The samurai epic, Ghost of Tsushima.
Unfortunately, these Easter eggs, clues, and hints have ultimately amounted to nothing, and it looks like Ubisoft has no plans for Assassin's Creed to take place in Japan in the near future. Recent rumors had indicated that the next entry of the franchise would take place in the Aztec Empire, however, these have recently been countered with further ongoing reports that the title will take place in Baghdad and would give players a smaller-scale experience compared to Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Ubisoft is also planning an event later in the year where it will reveal the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise, with plenty of speculation over the rumored Valhalla spinoff and AC Infinity project.
One fan has taken to Unreal Engine 5 to create a trailer that envisions what a formula that ended with Assassin's Creed Syndicate before more RPG-esque elements were introduced with 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins, which seems fitting for a story that would revert back to the series' stealth roots.
TeaserPlay has become known for their work with Unreal Engine 5, using the powerful new game development software to create a variety of concept trailers. Some of their most popular works have been recreations of the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy, providing a look at what a full current-gen remake of the popular 2000s-era titles could look like with photorealistic visuals and lighting after the official Definitive Edition's disappointing release in 2021.
While fans are likely disappointed that Ubisoft isn't making an Assassin's Creed game set in feudal Japan, TeaserPlay's trailer has shown the potential that such a game has. In the meantime, players looking to experience a stealth-action title set in historical Japan can enjoy the highly-praised Ghost of Tsushima, which despite currently being a PlayStation-exclusive title, is rumored to be getting a PC release soon.
