Odyssey will take place hundreds of years prior.
This place in the timeline makes Evie's inclusion particularly confusing. Assassin's Creed Syndicate takes place in late 1860s, placing the game nearly two millennia after Origins, not to mention Odyssey. Defying all logic or sense of time, though, Evie will be a helpful non-playable character in Odyssey - but only if certain conditions are met.

customizable ship, crew and the ability to face off against enemies on the Mediterranean Sea all available. Evie will be one special addition to the game. Adding Evie as the ship's Special Lieutenant will give the player +12 percent fire damage in naval combat and add specific crew and ship designs.
Evie is arguably one of the best leads in the Assassin's Creed franchise and has quite a huge following. Yet the means of unlocking Evie won't be readily available to everyone that buys the game. Odyssey players will be required to the Ubisoft Club, a free-to- rewards program, that is included in most of the Assassin's Creed developer's modern games. While the Ubisoft Club does usually contain some microtransactions to receive new weapons and/or cosmetics, it appears that Evie will be free. It's unclear how much Evie will really be featured in the game. It's not even currently known if Evie's original voice actress Victoria Atkins will provide new lines for Odyssey.
Evie won't be the first time that the Assassin's Creed franchise has included a logic-breaking Easter egg. It was possible, also through the Ubisoft Club, to unlock the outfits of previous Assassin's Creed leads in Origins. Origins' main character, Bayek of Siwa, could dress up in the robes of male or female character.
Of course, it's not as if Evie being in Odyssey is the only element of the game that is slightly confusing. As previously mentioned, Odyssey takes place hundreds of years before the supposed "origins" of the franchise. There doesn't seem to be a way that Odyssey can have an impact on the overarching plot of the world of Assassin's Creed without negating or contradicting huge swatches of Origins. Odyssey does look like an extremely promising game even if it's releasing in a packed holiday season. It may be best not to think of Odyssey's importance or place in the Assassin's Creed timeline and simply enjoy it as a fun adventure, set in the past, with some hallmarks of the Creed series.
