Assassin's Creed Remakes Could Revisit The Best Games

Entries Like Assassin's Creed 2 & Black Flag Still Stand Out

The most obvious candidate for inclusion is Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, as entirety of Ezio's story. Opinions on favorites among other games can be more varied, so it's difficult to pinpoint what else Ubisoft might prioritize remaking.

Although the modern Assassin's Creed games have their charms, some of the classic entries remain the arguable peaks of the series for a reason. The memorable story and focused design of Assassin's Creed 2 has been hard to recapture in the more expansive open-world games, even if elements like combat can feel a bit simplistic. Remakes should provide an opportunity to give the settings more life than ever and flesh out some of the more anemic aspects of the gameplay, potentially hooking newcomers into the games that made the franchise as iconic as it is.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Preview: The Potential Pinnacle Of The Series

Assassin's Creed Shadows is both a return to form for the series and an intriguing attempt to leap forward, and a preview presentation looks great.

Remakes can have their own problems, of course, and trying too hard to modernize something like Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag could result in a potentially inferior experience. All the same, there's room to tighten up elements of the progression and mission structure in that game, so it's not something that should be dismissed out of hand. The original Assassin's Creed might benefit most from a remake, with a lot of repetition that could be improved to match standards set by later titles.

At any rate, it's nice to get official confirmation on the subject from the Ubisoft CEO himself, putting an end to any speculation about whether there really are remakes in the works. It might be some time before they actually appear on the horizon, and the main thing that Assassin's Creed fans will likely be focusing on right now is the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows. When Assassin's Creed remakes do arrive, however, getting to play something like Assassin's Creed 2 with a fresh coat of paint and polish could be special.
