The Onryo target board contains the Assassin's Creed Shadows main antagonists, the Shinbakufu leaders who gang up on Naoe's father during the prologue. This group of big baddies is vying for control of the province, often through clandestine operations, and both Naoe and Yasuke are hell-bent on putting a stop to it. Naoe's quest for vengeance drives her to uncover the identities of all 12 Shinbakufu leaders, reaping the rewards in the process.

!!! WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ASSASSIN'S CREED SHADOWS !!!While we start off with vague information and target aliases, their identities are slowly uncovered over the length of the AC Shadows main campaign. Tracking down each leader takes you to the different major regions, and every target has a set of sub-quests that require completion before you're able to pinpoint their final location and take them out from the shadows.

12 The Samurai: Naoe's First Major Target

Ido Yoshihiro Is The First Key Target Naoe Takes Out In The Prologue

Ido Yoshihiro is the first target from the Onryo that you'll encounter; Naoe actually takes him out during the prologue. Yoshihiro is in possession of the infamous box that Naoe and Yasuke have to track down during the main storyline, which Naoe actually manages to grab before being cut off by the posse of Shinbakufu leaders on her way out.

Do You Need To Play Any AC Games Before Assassin's Creed Shadows?

Whether you're new to Assassin's Creed or a veteran of the franchise, AC Shadows doesn't require any special knowledge, though it might help.

There's no reward outside of story progression for killing the first target, though finding him is the first introduction to some of the core gameplay mechanics in AC Shadows. After taking out Ido Yoshihiro, Naoe and her father Nagato are left for dead by the Onryo leaders, setting the main events of the story in motion.

11 The Golden Teppo: Tea For Two

Wakasa Shot Naoe With The Golden Teppo & It's Time To Settle Things... Over Tea

The Golden Teppo target is among the first you'll uncover in the main part of the game after leaving the prologue, and this quest is like a primer for many of the target board quests. Eventually, you will find Naoe attending a tea ceremony in Izumi Settsu.

You won't have a choice for the tea ceremony gift if you're playing canon mode for AC Shadows, but can choose between three different gifts otherwise.

After talking with the various attendees, Naoe and the main suspect, Wakasa, peel off and have a candid discussion. It becomes clear by the Golden Teppo hanging on the wall that Wakasa was the Shinbakufu leader wielding the Golden Teppo who shot Naoe. Killing Wakasa rewards the Shinobi's Fury legendary tanto, which allows weakpoint attacks to make enemies vulnerable a second time.

10 The Wounded: A Brutal Daimyo

Wada Koretake Wreaks Havoc From Amagasaki Castle

Thanks to the help of the fearless warrior-monk and soon-to-be companion, Yaya, Naoe will get a clue for The Wounded Onryo target, also known as Wada Koretaka. After learning that Wada Koretake plans to wipe out the remaining resistance in Ikko Ikki, Naoe will eventually track down and kill Koretaka's executioner before heading to Amagasaki Castle to deal with the man himself.

Taking out Wada Koretaka awards the Death Whisperer legendary kusarigama, which gives +200% damage on enemy collisions. This is among the best kusarigamas available in the early game.

Taking out Wada Koretaka awards the Death Whisperer legendary kusarigama, which gives +200% damage on enemy collisions. This is among the best kusarigamas available in the early game, and was my go-to weapon for Naoe for at least the next 10 levels.

9 The Fool: An Arrogant Son-In-Law & His Desperate Brother

Ise Sadaoki Poisoned His Brother & Nearly Killed Him

The Fool is one of the first key targets that takes Naoe out of Izumi Settsu. Quests for The Fool's target information lead Naoe around the Yamashiro region, where she eventually meets a weakened, frail individual named Ise Sadatame in the Byodin Temple, who has been crippled by an act of attempted fratricide. Fortunately (or not) for him, he survived, and now sees that his brother must be stopped.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Shorter Length Is Great For The Series

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a significantly shorter game that its predecessors, and that’s an important step that’ll hugely benefit the series.

Or at least that's what he leads you to believe. In truth, he wants a chance at pleading with his brother to leave the Shinbakufu once and for all, and nearly gets Naoe and Yasuke killed for it. Taking out Ise Sadaoki rewards the Steel Blossom katana, which instantly charges posture attacks after a vault.

8 The Ox: The Horn-Helmed Tyrant & A Ronin On The Run

Bessho Harumasa Terrorizes Harima And Needs To Be Stopped

Naoe and Yasuke discover the identity of The Ox to be Bessho Harumasa after speaking with Nakamura Tadashige, and that he is building a legion of rebels in Miki Castle. To get in the castle and take him down, you'll need a little help from some trusty allies. The only way to get through to Bessho is covertly, and Naoe needs to be smuggled in through the main gate while hiding inside a shipment.

Kanabos are the heaviest damage-dealing weapons in Assassin's Creed Shadows, and can send enemies flying into oblivion with a well-timed swing.

Once inside, Naoe can weaken the castle's defenses and let everyone in, and Yasuke will confront Bessho Harumasa. After defeating him and his posse, Harumasa drops the Daybreak's Fury legendary kanabo, which will unlock Yasuke's kanabo skill tree if it's the first kanabo you've come across so far. It's also among the best kanabos in the game, and fires off shrapnel after breaking an opponents armor, dealing 100% damage.

7 The Noble: A Naked Gambler & Kidnapped Heir

Ukita Naoie Cares More About Revenge Than His Son's Safety

When you first come across the Renga master, a siege breaks out and Ukita Naoie's son, Ukita Hideie, is kidnapped and taken to an unknown location. Ukita Naoie is adamant that Lord Hideyoshi is responsible, and sends Naoe and company to track down the boy and his kidnappers. There's more going on beneath the surface here, though, and Ukita Naoie turns out to be a conniving politician willing to put his son in harms way for political gain.

The Oni's Fury Amulet is a Yasuke item that can be utilized to increase damage for powerful Epic quality items, which came in handy for me before collecting some of Yasuke's better legendary gear.

After chasing a naked gambler through the streets and dealing with some pretend perfume merchants, Naoe and Yasuke discover that the kidnapper is in fact the boy's own father, Ukita Naoie himself, and will need to head to Himeji Castle to hash this out. Dealing with Ukita Naoie will reward you with the Oni's Fury legendary amulet, which provides +15% Damage per non-legendary item equipped.

6 The Mourner: A Lady After Yasuke's Heart

Lady Oichi Has Secrets She'd Rather Yasuke Didn't Know

AC Shadows The Mourner Lady Oichi

Heading into the Omi region, Yasuke finds himself somewhat romantically interested in the Lady Oichi, a widow with clandestine plans for the region. The associated quests will have Naoe and Yasuke traveling all around Omi, blowing up castle ships, performing rituals with Lady Oichi, and taking out a drunken samurai that is terrorizing a group of locals. You'll eventually end up in Chikubushima at the Hogonji Temple.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows fits into the complicated Assassin’s Creed timeline, spanning centuries of history across four different continents.

Unfortunately for Yasuke, The Mourner turns out to be Lady Oichi herself, and he is pretty upset to find out that his love interest is actually a Shinbakufu leader. In the canon version of this encounter, Naoe heeds Yasuke's plea to spare the Lady, and she is among the only of the Onryo tree that survives Naoe's wrathful quest for vengeance. Completing Lady Oichi's final quest rewards the Myth Slayer long katana, making combo enders postured and enemies vulnerable on hit.

5 The Naginata: A Nephew With A Sharp Blade

Infiltrate Sakamato Castle To Free Omi From Akechi Kagemitsu's Grip

AC Shadows Naginata Onryo Target master intstrument player

As you learn more about the Omi region, there will be information regarding a duel on a bridge in the southeastern region. There you will find Shotei, who feels honor-bound to accept the duel, even at his daughter Katsuhime's insistence that it's a trap. She's right, and it will become clear that The Naginata Shinbakufu leader is none other than Akechi Mitsuhide's nephew, Kagemitsu, who plans to ambush Shotei.

Luckily for Shotei, Naoe and Yasuke are there to fight off the Naginata and his goons, forcing a retreat back to Sakamato Castle. After tracking down Shotei and his daughter, the whole gang will need to infiltrate the castle and take out the Naginata once and for all. Doing so awards the Sage's Reach Naginata, which stacks +10% damage on your next hit with each block.

4 The Wise: No Jokin' Around With Joken Hokkyo

The Wise Monk Controls His Rebellion From The Shadows

Joken Hokkyo is a seemingly harmless monk that Naoe meets during a chance encounter, and you'll become familiar with him over the course of tracking down The Wise Onryo target. Joken gives you a tour of the temple, and nearly ends up losing his life for dishonoring Tsustui Junkei after an important scroll was stolen. During the "Darkness Falls" quest, there will be a showdown at the Kofukuji Temple between all the key players, where Yasuka is blamed for all the goings-on in the past days.

Yasuke isn't having it though, and the focus then shifts to Joken Hokkyo himself, who turns out to have an entire underground following of his own. You'll have to fight (or sneak) your way through his gang of monks, but taking him out awards the Winds of War legendary kusarigama. This weapon allows posture attacks on dazed enemies to break their armor, and it was my personal replacement for the Death Whisperer mentioned above.

3 The Fox: Chef Hong Has The Inside Scoop

A Cunning Fox Named Takeda Motoaki Stalks Wakasa

Once you enter the Wakasa region and trace the steps of the Fox Onryo target, Naoe and Yasuke end up sharing a meal with Chef Hong. Chef Hong knows the scuttlebutt, and informs the protagonists about a gang of pirates in the area. Later in the quest, Naoe recognizes a familiar song being played by the master Biwa player. He explains that it's one of his apprentice's original scores, leading Naoe to believe only the apprentice could be the real target.

Visit Chef Hong again after completing this quest for a fun side quest about soups.

The Fox, also known as Takeda Motoaki, is found in the Samurai Yashiki District, and is determined to wipe out the Niwa clan and secure the region himself. Dealing with him awards the Snakebite legendary katana, which instantly charges posture attacks after using a tool.
