If you are looking for the Yokai in Assassin's Creed Shadows, it will be difficult to narrow the search area down and similarly difficult to defeat the enemies. It can be narrowed down by the clues you get, but then you have to waste scouts or wander the countryside aimlessly until you stumble across them. You will, however, want to unlock the quest first, as otherwise, the objectives will not be tracked.

Navigating the map in Assassin's Creed Shadows can be difficult, particularly when you are looking for specific targets. However, there are a lot of ways to make that easier, such as using the Pathfinder mode. Once you unlock the main Yokai quest from Mamushi, you can then use the locations listed below to place markers and head in the right direction. One of them is quite far away from the central area of the map, so be prepared for a long gallop.

Unlocking The Yokai Quest From Mamushi

Location & Quest Giver

To get the Yokai quest, you will need to go to the Hills of Meeting in the Yamashiro region. You are looking for the Nyoiji Daiji Temple, which is situated almost exactly halfway between the Pagoda of the Hills and the Kiyomizudera Pagoda viewpoints. Once there, you just have to walk up to Mamushi and talk to him to start the quest.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Is The Second Biggest Launch In The Franchise, Just Behind Valhalla

Assassin's Creed Shadows is confirmed to have had the second biggest launch in the history of the franchise, just behind Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

He will tell you there are no Yokai, and to come back when there aren't any more. After that, you will be given six targets as part of a new objective to find and defeat all of them. Once you have them, you can start sending scouts out if you want, or you can use the locations from us to get to where you need to go and save your scouts.

One thing to keep in mind is that these targets have a wide variety of levels, and some of them you will not be able to grab until much later. Ironically, one of the ones located in the hardest section of the game is also the easiest one to defeat first, as long as you have leveled up your Hidden Dagger.

Every Yokai Location In AC Shadows & All Rewards

Hunting Down The Yokai

All the targets blacked out in AC Shadows

You'll notice that the targets are all blacked out with question marks on their faces when you first get the objectives. You should pick the protagonist Yasuke for most of these targets, as most of them will require you to face your enemy head on. They are all quite hard, and you will have very little room for error, so make sure you go in tip-top shape.

Suika no Bakemono

Suika no Bakemono location in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Suika no Bakemono is located in Izumi Settsu, and is technically the lowest level one that you can go grab. However, to me, it is a harder fight than the next one on the list. Go in with Yasuke and use your best gear to fight them and take them down. While it says summer or fall, I ran into Suika in other seasons as well.

You can change the season, but the more important restriction for this quest is what time of day it is. Several are night time only and you will have to wait it out until night to find them.

After this one, you will have a long way to travel if you do want to attempt these in order.

Rewards:

  • 2000 XP
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • Damage After Ability (Engraving)

Taka Nyudo

Taka Nyudo location in Assassin's Creed Shadows

This one is located in Tamba, which has a high level, but Taka himself is just level 18 and is easily assassinated so long as you have at least one upgrade for your Hidden Blade and are close to level 18 yourself. This is the one Yokai that Naoe can handle a bit better than Yasuke. After you finish him, there will be a cutscene with someone that Taka was holding prisoner, which will be important later.

Rewards:

  • 2000 XP
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • Tail of the Beast (Kanabo)
  • Armor Piercing on Afflicted Enemies (Engraving)

Kappa

Kappa the Yokai location in AC Shadows

Kappa is located in Yamashiro, and can only be found at night. You are looking for the Genbu Panorama viewpoint, and from there look for the Haunted Tatarigami Village. The Kappa is located in the valley beneath the village. It is a level 22, so not too difficult, although it is a higher level than the level for Yamashiro in general.

Rewards:

  • 2000 XP
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • Ammo on Headshot (Engraving)

Daitengu

Daitengu map location in Assassin's Creed Shadows

This one will be located in Harima, near the Arima Onsen which is just across the border from Yamashiro. It is a difficult one at level 26, but it is doable if you are within an appropriate level range with some good weapons.

Rewards:

  • 2000 XP
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • Daitengu's Feather (Katana)
  • Damage with Combo Ender (Engraving)

Oshiroi Baba

Oshiroi Baba map location in AC Shadows

This is where things start to get difficult, with Oshirioi Baba coming in at level 28. This is another one that can only be found at night. I had the hardest time tracking her down, but only because I had just ed nighttime and it took a long time for the cycle to go back around.

Rewards:

  • 2000 XP
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • Adrenaline under Half Health (Engraving)

Yuki Onna

This is the hardest one, as Yuki Onna is a level 38, and she can easily take you down in one hit. She is reportedly also only found at night, but I want to say I actually did find her during the day. I believe she retreats to a cave during the day, while roaming the fields at night.

A new Assassin's Creed Shadows merchandise partnership will be available for a brief period this coming weekend, but the supply will be limited.

If you find her in the caves, I was given a very short chance to try to assassinate her, but it had a red bar, meaning it wasn't going to succeed. I think if you were closer to her in level, and you had the Tanto and a lot of assassination upgrades, you could likely pull it off. Otherwise, it will be a very tough boss fight and you will want to bring a fully upgraded Yasuke. After that, you will want to return to Mamushi.

Rewards:

  • 2000 XP
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • Violet Night (Katana)

Returning To Mamushi To Finish The Quest

One Last Boss Fight

Naoe and Mamushi

that cutscene I said was important? Maybe not, but once you return to Mamushi, you will find that he has been killed by the woman you saved from Taka. She will then engage you in a fight, after revealing her name is Ao Andon. At this point, she shouldn't be hard to kill. However, you will get a final set of rewards:

  • 2000 XP
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • Critical Chance with Backstab (Engraving)
  • Melon Cart (Cosmetic)

And that is how you can find all of the Yokai and get the rewards in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
