The Assassin's Creed franchise has left a number of storylines unresolved, and the series' next installments should try to tie up these loose ends. The historical sci-fi saga has visited a variety of different time periods, with an overarching modern-day story tying the ongoing narrative together. The epic saga involves characters, items, locations, and events from across the entire history of the human race. Over the years Ubisoft has introduced a number of fascinating concepts and characters to the world of Assassin's Creed, but unfortunately not every storyline has been given a fitting conclusion.

Most of the storylines in the Assassin's Creed narrative have been given satisfying conclusions, even if they aren't provided in the games themselves. Fans have been able to follow many of the franchise's protagonists right up until the bitter end, with the deaths of figures like Altair Ibn-La'Ahad and Haytham Kenway forming the emotional climaxes of many games. Series icon Ezio Auditore instead meets his demise in a short animated film titled Assassin's Creed: Embers, while the circumstances of Edward Kenway's death are revealed in the novel Assassin's Creed: Forsaken. Many of the powerful artifacts known as the Pieces of Eden have also been detailed, with Basim Ibn Ishaq possessing many of them by the modern day.

Ubisoft has also given many elements of the present-day Assassin's Creed story fitting conclusions, whether it be in-game or in spin-off media. For example, the series' original modern-day protagonist Desmond Miles heroically sacrifices his life to prevent the apocalypse in Assassin's Creed 3. The modern-day portion of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag sees the ancient deity Juno come back to life, a storyline that appeared to be completely abandoned in subsequent games. The franchise did actually follow up and eventually conclude this strange story, however, in a comic book series titled Assassin's Creed: Uprising. While Ubisoft has so far ensured that many of the series' loose ends are tied up, there are still some Assassin's Creed storylines that future games should conclude.

Assassin's Creed Has Revealed & Forgotten Several Pieces of Eden

Assassin's Creed - Piece of Eden

The modern-day Assassin's Creed story is largely focused on Pieces of Eden, forgotten relics left behind by an ancient race known as the Isu. These advanced items can grant immense power to their wielder or can be used as a powerful energy source to unlock or utilize other Isu machines. The end of the very first Assassin's Creed game sees Altair claim an Apple of Eden, perhaps the most recognizable type of Piece of Eden, from his mentor Al Mualim. Subsequent entries introduced even more types of relics, including the Papal Staff and Shroud of Eden.

Unfortunately, several Pieces of Eden have been introduced only to be forgotten in subsequent entries. The most notable examples of this are mythic relics that were explained to actually be Pieces of Eden like King Arthur's sword Excalibur, the Fountain of Youth or Thor's legendary hammer Mjolnir. These powerful items would dramatically change the world if they were unearthed in the modern day, or utilized to influence a historical time period. A future Assassin's Creed title should reveal where every Piece of Eden is located, and what role they are supposed to play in the overarching narrative.

Assassin's Creed Protagonists Like Connor & Arno Never Got A Sendoff

Assassin's Creed Connor Arno and Shay

While the fates of characters like Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway have been portrayed, the Assassin's Creed series has failed to reveal the fates of several key protagonists. Connor Kenway helps win the American Revolution in Assassin's Creed 3, but his ultimate fate is never revealed other than the fact that he had three children with a Native American woman. The fates of Assassin's Creed's Arno Dorian and Shay Cormac also go unresolved, despite unfinished business between the Assassin and Templar protagonists. The fates of other Assassins who operated during the American Revolution, like Aveline de Grandpré and Eseosa, also go unrevealed.

Future Assassin's Creed titles should shed more light on what became of the franchise's main protagonists, perhaps even bringing them back for a final adventure. Arno Dorian and Connor Kenway both have ties to Shay Cormac, making a team-up game an ideal way to conclude all three of their stories. This game could also address the fates of ing characters like Aveline and Eseosa, who were established but never fully fleshed out in the series. By tying up these loose ends, Assassin's Creed can make its lore and backstory even more extensive.

Assassin's Creed Needs To Tie Up The Modern Story

Assassin's Creed Valhalla The Reader And Layla

Assassin's Creed Valhalla was an important turning point for the modern Assassin's Creed story, and the series' next games need to follow up the title's events. At the end of the open-world epic, protagonist Layla Hassan chooses to sacrifice herself and remain within a computer simulation known as The Grey. Layla is trapped within this virtual afterlife with a being called The Reader, who is heavily implied to be the conscious remains of previous franchise protagonist Desmond Miles. Meanwhile, Basim Ibn Ishaq is revealed to be an immortal reincarnation of the Norse god Loki and assumes the role of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's modern-day protagonist.

Basim Ibn Ishaq's early life in Baghdad is confirmed to be the focus of next year's Assassin's Creed Mirage, and a future Assassin's Creed game definitely needs to address the modern aftermath of Valhalla. The identity of The Reader is kept deliberately ambiguous, but if it is Desmond Miles then there may be a chance to see more of the original Assassin's Creed hero. Basim has also been let loose in the modern world, and his identity as the trickster god Loki means that he will likely spread discord across civilization in some capacity. With Assassin's Creed Mirage set to shed light on Basim's past, it seems logical for the game to also explore his present circumstances.

As the Assassin's Creed universe continues to grow it sadly becomes more likely that plot threads and characters will be left unresolved. The franchise has left several characters and Pieces of Eden uned for, but future games can still pick up these threads and weave fascinating new stories. The modern Assassin's Creed story is still developing, too, with Basim being a key figure that needs to be explored in greater detail.
