Dawn of Ragnarok expansion DLC has new additions in no short supply, including some powerful godly Norse characters, most of which are first-time features to the game. Every character is crucial to the overall story and gameplay in Dawn of Ragnarok. Ubisoft's recent trailer released on February 10 gave the community a more in-depth analysis of how each one of them will interact with the protagonist, Evior.

Incorporating gods isn't a new concept to Assassin's Creed games. Ubisoft's past three games in the series have utilized gods as story characters in some way, shape, or form. Valhalla is no different; after all, the game follows the life of a Norwegian Viking assassin who's engulfed in the cultural and religious practices of their people. While the main questline focuses on the historical events and places of the era, Ubisoft also created a mythological side. AC Valhalla's real Ravensthorpe location houses the Seer, whom Evior visits in order to travel into the world of Norse myth. While progressing through the separate Asgardian quests, Evior plays the role of Odin and encounters many Norse gods along the way: Loki, Thor, and Fenrir, among others. Ubisoft has made it clear that Dawn of Ragnarok's content will be nothing like past Assassin's Creed DLCs (including Valhalla's), which means all the new elements should feel fresh, including the godly characters.

There are four main god-like characters in AC Valhalla's Dawn of Ragnarok story. Two, Baldur and Odin, are actual Norse gods and part of the Aesir, and they're charged with saving the occupied Svartalfheim. The other two, Sinmara and Surtr, are powerful Jotun (giants), and they are the leading adversaries trying to maintain control over the dwarven realm. If the Aesir gods can't stop the powerful Jotun, Dawn of Ragnarok might be Valhalla's last expansion.

AC Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarok's Baldur Looks Weaker Than God Of War's

AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok Baldur Captured

Baldur, an Aesir Norse god and son to Odin, makes his first appearance to AC Valhalla. However, it's not the first time that he's been featured in a AAA title. In fact, in the most recent God of War game, Baldur is the main adversary to Kratos. The two have a couple of fights, once in the beginning and another at the end. Through God of War's interpretation - Baldur is strong and fierce, unable to feel pain or be killed. Ubisoft's version of the god in the  AC Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok DLC looks like it won't be taking that same stance on him - quite the opposite. Baldur is only pictured as being a weak and helpless prisoner to Surtr. There are some similar qualities to God of War's take on the character however, like Baldur being the center of conflict. Kratos and Freya might not make up because of their disagreement on Odin's son.

Odin, in contrast to his son Baldur, is the main protagonist and strongest god of the two in Dawn of Ragnarokhidden details of AC Valhalla's story, but also makes for a chilling look into the god's psyche. Dawn of Ragnarok, however, is focusing on a more human side to Odin, and presents the god as a loving parent seeking to receive their child back into their arms, but Odin might not be able to save Baldur if Surtr and Sinmara get in the way.

Dawn Of Ragnarok's Surtr & Sinmara Are AC Valhalla's Toughest Challenge Yet

AC Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok Odin and Sinmara

Like Baldur, Sinmara hasn't been featured in AC Valhalla yet, and she hasn't had any other big roles in AAA titles. She's a fresh character with a clean slate, so it's likely that Ubisoft took advantage of that opportunity to create a dynamic character. Sinmara is still uniquely rooted in the Norse world, and it's likely Dawn of Ragnarok will stick to her traditional roles. Norse myths tell us that she is a giantess and wife of the famous Mimir, God of War's best storyteller - but she's also the considered a consort to Surtr. What is officially known from the trailers is that she's working with Surtr to stop Odin. There's a scene where Odin is fighting her, and she looks to be a tough boss. However, Surtr is at the top of hierarchy and will be the toughest battle for Odin.

Surtr might possibly be the greatest opposition to all the Norse gods, especially when it comes to the events of Ragnarok unfolding. The fire giant from Muspelheim is the end all worst scenario for Odin. Most tales indicate that Odin won't be able to stop the Jotun from destroying the gods; this makes him the perfect antagonist for Dawn of Ragnarok's DLC. Hellblade's Surtr could compare to AC Valhalla's version, but from the trailers, it looks like the giant will be twice as powerful this time around. Along with Surtr's alliance to Sinmara, he's also shown leading an army of fire and frost warriors. Jotnars and Muspels, as they're called, will aid Surtr and Sinmara to fulfill Ragnarok's doom, but they have distinct weaknesses that can play into the hand of Odin.

Although Jotnars and Muspels are yet another enemy for Odin to overcome in the Dawn of Ragnarok saga, they can easily be manipulated. Details show that some of the new powers that Evior gets while playing as Odin, allows Surtr's minions to be used against him. Gameplay in the trailers show Odin defeating them, stealing their life source, and then resurrecting them to fight against other Muspels and Jotnars. Dawn of Ragnarok is shaping up to look like an epic last DLC adventure before the Assassin's Creed Valhalla Basim standalone launches, which is reportedly a separate game. If players have enjoyed Ubisoft's dive into mythology with this series of its games, hopefully the March expansion can deliver the same level of quality.
