The Assassin's Creed Odyssey, according to producer Julien Laferrière. Set in the time of the European Dark Ages, Valhalla will put players in command of a Viking settlement as they battle to defend their new home from the Royal Army of England, as well as being presumably drawn into the ancient Templar/Assassin conflict that has spanned the course of the entire Assassin’s Creed series.

Despite not seeing much actual gameplay yet, fans have been growing increasingly excited for the next installment of Ubisoft’s long-running historical open-world franchise, as it will be developed by the extremely the literary hero Beowulf.

Reddit u/vesat recently posted a translation of a YouTube interview between French gaming journalist Julien Chièze and Assassin's Creed Valhalla producer Julien Laferrière, in which the latter spoke of the size of Valhalla’s game world. According to him, it is going to be “a bit larger” than the map for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, covering the landscape of nineteenth-century England and part of Norway.

It was previously reported that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla would be shorter and smaller than Odyssey due to fan complaints that the last game required players to grind far too much in order to get their player character to a suitable level to continue through the story. This newest response from Julien Laferrière seems to contradict that notion, at least as far as Valhalla’s in-game map is concerned, although that could have just meant that the plot itself is shorter while the game world is as vast as ever.

Still, the idea of players being able to transverse the beautifully rendered landscapes of England and Norway throughout Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will certainly be an appealing prospect to players. With news that famous historical landmarks like Stonehenge will be included alongside such side activities as hunting, boating and engaging in the historically accurate rap battle-style contests known as “flyting,” fans can likely rest easy knowing that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will masterfully bring the time of Vikings to life when it hits store shelves later this year.
