A closer look at Siege of Paris DLC's release date is set for tomorrow, August 12, and the new expansion will see Viking leader Eivor protect their new colony home from the invading forces of French ruler Charles the Fat. This will culminate in Assassin's Creed Valhalla's retelling of the real-world Siege of Paris, a yearlong 9th century conflict.

The Siege Of Paris is the second DLC expansion to come to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. May saw the launch of Wrath Of The Druids, which pitted Eivor against an ancient cult in Ireland. Other post-launch content has included the return of Discovery Tour mode, allowing players to experience Viking life without combat or missions. Seasonal events like Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Sigrblot festival have been implemented to add new quests and spruce up Eivor's settlement, with the Yule and Ostara festivals having previously been celebrated in December and March, respectively.

On Wednesday, Ubisoft North America released a new gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: The Siege Of Paris DLC expansion, showing off the return of Black Box Infiltration missions, as well as Eivor trying to seek an audience with Charles the Fat. After a humorous introduction describing the plague and rat-infested streets of 9th century Francia, the video uses Siege Of Paris’ first infiltration mission as an example of what to expect from the open-ended assassination quests. In it, Eivor is tasked with killing a corrupt bishop named Engelwin.

If the footage is any indication, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's improved stealth finally resembles the return to series form expected at launch. Eivor first has to find a way inside the heavily-guarded St. Genevieve Church, which immediately opens up decisions for how to go about it. Speaking to off-duty guards at a tavern in order to gather information leads them into the sewers. After luring a swarm of rats to attack patrolling guards, Eivor uncovers a key to the church's unguarded rear entrance. There is also a they can instead use to enter through the front, an option that makes guards trust the player while they talk with the various churchgoers about Engelwin. Sneaking inside the bishop's inner sanctum in a disguise, Eivor has the choice between challenging Engelwin in a boss battle, stealthily taking him out from the rafters, or pretending to be a devoted follower long enough to move in for the kill. Whichever is chosen, the mission ends with the Bishop dead and Eivor one step closer to conquering Paris.

While it didn't reveal how Assassin’s Creed's Eivor and Kassandra might meet, the new The Siege Of Paris trailer shows off plenty of compelling options for completing Eivor's anticipated infiltration missions. The stealth action looks compelling, but the attention paid to the political and religious intrigue at the core of the DLC’s story also seems promising.
