It's no secret that Astro Bot is making waves, as not only has it sold 1.5 million copies since its release 9 weeks ago, but 37% of players have either never purchased a Sony title, or haven't within the past two years. Developed by Team Asobi, the platformer has seen massive success over this short period, and fans now know just how beloved the title truly is.
Sony recently released sales data that showed not only the number of Astro Bot sales but also the traits that provided fans with the knowledge that a whopping 37% of players were new s of the platform entirely. While selling this number of copies is a major milestone for the developers, knowing that their title brought numerous new s to Sony's platform is another major victory.
Astro Bot May Have Been Expected To Be A Success
The Sales Numbers And Revenue Have Fans Asking Questions
While fans are usually hopeful for their favorite titles to become a major success, usually it comes as quite a shock when some do as well as Astro Bot has in such a short time. However, this appears to be the opposite of the case here. Fans are actually wondering why the title has "only" sold 1.5 million copies, and not many, many more.

Our Take: Platformers May Not Be As Popular As They Used To Be
Has The Genre Become Less Popular Over Time?
Taking another look at the original Reddit post, it seems some fans think that the reason Astro Bot isn't selling more copies is due to the newer generation not being as fond of platforming titles. Previously, fans were used to games such as those from the Mario franchise and Sonic The Hedgehog, which were both based upon platforming, collecting small items, and defeating a few enemies along the way. With games like Call of Duty and Fortnite taking center stage, it could be the genre just isn't as popular as it once was.
Even if the idea that platformers aren't as popular as they were in the past is true, the amount of sales within such a short period of time should b celebrated by any developer. The fact that Astro Bot not only sold almost 2 million copies in 9 weeks but also brought in a massive amount of new s along with those sales, is a huge milestone to hit. Hopefully, the success of the title continues, and the developers continue to release new content for Astro Bot fans.
