Of all the Titans in Attack on Titan, none are more important than the legendary Nine Titans. The Nine Titans are derived from the original Titan powers of Ymir Fritz, the first Titan, and with the perks of retaining one’s sanity and returning to their human form at their leisure, being a so-called Titan Shifter puts someone far above a regular Titan.

Naturally, the biggest thing that puts the Nine Titans above regular Titans is the sheer power they possess. All of the Nine Titans have unique abilities that make them all exceedingly hard to kill, and at the end of it all, much of the conflict in the final stages of Attack on Titan revolves around how well the powers of the Nine Titans are utilized. Naturally, even with that, some of the Titan powers ended up being better than others, and with how important they are to the series, there’s plenty of merit in ranking them.

9 Female Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 22, Episode 17; Most Recently Used By Annie Leonhart

The Female Titan is the Titan form of Annie Leonhart in Attack on Titan. As the name would imply, the Female Titan is a distinctly female Titan form, and throughout the series, it exhibits many abilities shared by other Titan Shifters, such as hardening and minor control of Pure Titans, which is later revealed to stem from its ability to copy the abilities of other Titans it consumes.

While the Female Titan’s adaptability is a good power on the surface, it’s highly contingent on the being able to consume parts of the other Nine Titans, and even then, the powers it copies don’t appear to be on the same level as the original. The Female Titan offers few notable powers on its own, and Annie’s success with it came down to her own skill more than anything it had to offer.

8 Armored Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 2, Episode 2; Most Recently Used By Reiner Braun

The Armored Titan is the Titan form of Reiner Braun in Attack on Titan and is notable for being one of the two Titans responsible for destroying Wall Maria at the beginning of the series. The Armored Titan is coated in thick armor that gives it both powerful offense and defense, and it can even shed pieces of its armor to increase its speed to varying degrees.

The Armored Titan was menacing in its early appearances, but when hardening became something every Titan could possess, its power quickly lost its uniqueness, especially when hardening made it all too easy for Eren and other Titans to break its armor. The Armored Titan quickly lost any prestige when other Titans gained the same basic ability, and the way Reiner constantly loses in later arcs makes that even more apparent.

7 Beast Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 34, Episode 26; Most Recently Used By Zeke Yeager

The Beast Titan is the Titan form of Zeke Yeager, Eren’s older half-brother and a major antagonist in Attack on Titan. The Beast Titan gives each new a unique form based on a specific animal; in Zeke’s case, the Beast Titan took on a form based on a monkey with long arms capable of throwing projectiles long distances.

Zeke's Beast Titan also had the ability to turn those infused with his spinal fluid into Titans, but that was due to him being a descendant of the Fritz bloodline and is normally impossible for the Beast Titan.

The unique nature of the Beast Titan makes it a Titan that can always have a use for whatever situation the current finds themselves in, and as simplistic as Zeke’s version was, the raw power and versatility of Zeke’s Beast Titan made him one of the strongest Titan s, despite it lacking some of the unique powers of the other Nine Titans. The special abilities of some of the other Titans put them above the Beast Titan, but even then, its power can’t be underestimated.

6 Jaw Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 40, Episode 29; Most Recently Used By Falco Grice

The Jaw Titan is a Titan form originally possessed by Reiner’s fellow Warrior, Marcel Galliard, before being taken by Ymir, which was then given to Marcel’s brother, Porco, before finally ending up with the new prospective Warrior, Falco Grice. Not only does the Jaw Titan boast powerful teeth that can bite through the hardest material, but it also has razor-sharp claws and is stated to be the fastest of the Titans, despite its small size.

While the Jaw Titan never properly appeared until late into the series, with Ymir’s version focusing more on speed than anything, every appearance of the Jaw Titan in Attack on Titan’s later arcs makes it out to be nothing but a powerhouse with a perfect balance of speed and strength. Falco’s version, specifically, was vital for the final battle, and that’s a big testament to how great a Titan power the Jaw Titan is.

5 War Hammer Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 101, Episode 65; Most Recently Used By Eren Yeager

The War Hammer Titan is the Titan form of Lara Tybur and the last of the Nine Titans to be introduced in Attack on Titan. The War Hammer Titan has incredible mastery over hardening to the point that it can create powerful weapons, most often a hammer, and the also possesses the unique ability to control it from outside the War Hammer Titan’s body, although they have to remain attached through a cable at all times.

Not only does the War Hammer Titan have some of the highest versatility of any of the Nine Titans, but with Lara’s protective crystal being so strong that only the Jaw Titan can break it, the War Hammer Titan arguably has the best balance of offense and defense of any Titan form. It might have only appeared for a single fight, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive a form.

4 Cart Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 74, Episode 50; Most Recently Ised By Pieck Finger

The Cart Titan is the Titan form of Pieck Finger, a fellow member of Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie’s Warrior program. The Cart Titan is a quadrupedal Titan that not only has great speed, but incredible stamina to the point that Pieck can stay transformed for weeks and make countless transformations in quick succession, all of which, true to its name, makes it ideal for carrying heavy materials whenever necessary.

While it never did as much as the other Nine Titans, the Cart Titan was always consistently great as a ing unit, and as the final battle shows, the Cart Titan’s extreme amount of stamina works great for both offense and defense when the situation calls for it. Overall, the Cart Titan might be one of the goofier Titans, but that doesn’t make it any less formidable.

3 Colossal Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 1, Episode 1; Most Recently Used By Armin Arlert

The Colossal Titan is the Titan form of Bertholdt Hoover, later Armin Arlert, and the general mascot of Attack on Titan. Not only does its massive size eclipse all other Titans, but it creates a massive explosion whenever the transforms, and from there, it can fight with its slow, but powerful strength and its ability to generate massive amounts of steam to burn anything around it to death.

As the first of the Nine Titans, one would expect the Colossal Titan to slowly lose relevance as the rest of the Nine Titans were introduced, but sure enough, the Colossal Titan is consistently portrayed as the physically strongest of the Titans, and its massive power was the deciding factor in the final battle against Eren. No Titan can compare to the Colossal Titan in of raw power, and there’s no character better fitting as Attack on Titan’s mascot.

2 Attack Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 7, Episode 7; Most Recently Used By Eren Yeager

The Attack Titan is the Titan form of Eren Yeager and the Titan for whom the series is named. For most of Attack on Titan, the Attack Titan didn’t seem to have any powers beyond a vague statement of always being free, but Attack on Titan season 4 finally revealed its true power: the power for its s to share and experience the memories of not only the Attack Titan s who came before them, but the ones who will come after them, as well.

Eren's Attack Titan Form Surprisingly Works In Live-Action With Cool New Attack On Titan Cosplay

One of Attack on Titan's most terrifying Titans has been depicted in a jaw-dropping recent cosplay that summarizes why Eren's Titan form is so scary.

1

Physically speaking, the Attack Titan doesn’t do much more than a regular Titan, the foresight provided by the ability to see the past and future makes it a manipulative force to be reckoned with, and Eren’s use of the Attack Titan’s powers is the main reason why ’s finale went the way it did. It’s the most iconic Titan form after the Colossal Titan, and its incredible power more than justifies that.

1 Founding Titan

First Appeared In Attack On Titan Chapter 50, Episode 37; Most Recently Used By Eren Yeager

The Founding Titan, also called the Coordinate, is the original Titan power of Ymir Fritz, the first Titan Shifter. The Founding Titan’s main threat comes from its abilities to turn Eldians into Titans and control Titans however the sees fit, which created the threat of the Rumbling, but it can also manipulate people’s minds to erase their memories and force people to follow specific commands, and by manipulating the Paths, the dimension that links the consciousnesses of all Eldians, the can view all points in time simultaneously and even subtly influence events at will.

Everything that happens in Attack on Titan revolves around the constant struggle to control the Founding Titan and its potential world-ending power, and as shown in the final arc, the pure, unbridled devastation brought about by the Rumbling more than justifies why the Founding Titan was seen as such a threat, as does all of the crazy ways Eren can manipulate people using Paths. The Founding Titan more than lived up to the level of importance it was given, and there’s no better candidate for the strongest of the Nine Titans in Attack on Titan.
