Avatar: The High Ground Volume 1 takes one of James Cameron's original screenplays for Avatar and adapts it into three separate graphic novels, all collected here as written by Sherri L. Smith. The collection boasts additional creative talents from Guilherme Balbi as artist, colors by Michael Atiyeh and Wes Dzioba, and letters by Michael Heisler. A synopsis for Avatar: The High Ground can be found below:

It has been more than a decade since the humans were forced to leave Pandora, but now they’re returning—with an armada of heavily-armed starships! After years of peace, Jake Sully has settled down with Neytiri and raised a family, so for him, the stakes are even higher than when he first went to war against the corporate might of the RDA.

Taking place after the events of Avatar and before The Way of Water, The High Ground technically serves as the original plans for Avatar 2, but is nonetheless a canonical part of the lore.

Meanwhile, Avatar: Tales from Pandora features five canonical stories set within the world of James Cameron's sci-fi epic. The creative team boasts a talented team featuring writers Sherri L. Smith, Jeremy Barlow, Ray Fawkes, and Corinna Bechko, alongside artists Jan Duursema, Doug Wheatley, Josh Hood, Gabriel Guzmán, and Beni R. Lobel. Here is a synopsis for each tale in this collection:

In Tsu’tey’s Path, experience the events of the first Avatar movie—from the perspective of Na’vi Omatikaya warrior Tsu’tey!

Then, in the short story “Brothers,” Jake connects with the flying Toruk by ing the depth of his bond with his twin brother and great partnerships of history and legend.

In The Next Shadow, set immediately after the events of Avatar, Jake navigates his position as both leader of the Omatikaya and former Marine as tensions ramp up between the Na’vi and the humans who remain on Pandora.

In Frontiers of Pandora: So’lek’s Journey, young Na’vi warrior, So’lek, is one of the last survivors of his clan, searching for his place on Pandora and struggling with the nightmares of war.

Finally, set years before the events of Avatar, in Adapt or Die, Dr. Grace Augustine wants to build a bridge between the occupying humans and the Na’vi, but her plans hit a wall as a mysterious illness among Na’vi and avatars is blamed on the humans.

This collection features stories that either take place after, during, and before the events of Avatar, effectively making the omnibus both a prequel and sequel to the first movie.
