The next original installment in the the Last Airbender timeline in over a decade.

The new animated show, titled Avatar: Seven Havens, will take place in the future of the Last Airbender franchise, but Nickelodeon didn't reveal exactly when it will happen. The exact placement of Seven Havens in the timeline is rather interesting, especially considering how long it has been since The Last Airbender moved forward in time. The live-action Last Airbender and the Aang movie are retreading stories that have already been told or at least referenced before. Avatar: Seven Havens is the only Last Airbender project that will feature a new and completely unpredictable entry to the franchise, thanks to its timeline.

Avatar: Seven Havens Take Place After The Events Of The Legend Of Korra

Seven Havens' World Was "Shattered By A Devastating Cataclysm"

Avatar: Seven Havens will be a mostly direct sequel to the last animated entry in the Last Airbender franchise, The Legend of Korra. The ending of The Last Airbender. Avatar Aang also died at a relatively young age, and Korra may have survived much longer than he did.

Unfortunately, for now, there's no telling exactly when Seven Havens takes place, though it's safe to say it occurs a very long time after The Legend of Korra.

The official synopsis of Seven Havens also provides some evidence that quite a bit of time es between it and The Legend of Korra. When Korra stepped into the spirit world with Asami, the world was in a relative state of peace after she defeated Kuvira. However, according to Nickelodeon, much has changed since then.

Avatar: Seven Havens is set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she's the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity's destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.

The world of Seven Havens seems significantly different and more apocalyptic than the one presented in The Legend of Korra. Such drastic changes must have taken a long time to materialize. Unfortunately, for now, there's no telling exactly when Seven Havens takes place, though it's safe to say it occurs a very long time after The Legend of Korra.

The Next Avatar Is An Earthbender And Korra’s Successor

Since Korra Was A Waterbender, The Next Avatar Will Be An Earthbender

Like The Legend of Korra before it, Avatar: Seven Havens will follow the next Avatar in the Avatar cycle. Since the Avatar cycle follows a predictable pattern through the four elements - Air, Water, Earth, then Fire - Seven Havens' Avatar will be an Earthbender who takes over the mantle after Korra's death. Aside from confirming that the new Avatar is an Earthbender, Nickelodeon also provided some interesting bits of information about Seven Havens' protagonist: the new Avatar is a female, she has a twin sibling of indeterminate gender, and she's viewed as the destroyer of humanity rather than its savior.

Seven Havens' yet-unnamed Avatar already seems to have wildly different goals and obstacles from both Aang and Korra. In contrast to both of her predecessors, the newest Avatar will not have much help from others, and won't be a source of hope and inspiration. That particularly distances her from Korra, who had a recurring struggle of trying to live up to the legend of Aang's heroics. The new Avatar will be somewhat similar to Aang and Korra, however, as Nickelodeon's synopsis took the time to mention that she'll have to face spirit enemies who want her dead.

Will Any The Last Airbender Or Korra Characters Appear In Avatar’s New Show?

The Gaang Is Likely Dead In Seven Heavens, But Korra Characters Could Easily Appear

The timeline of Avatar: Seven Havens also raises the question of whether any characters will return from either The Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra. It seems particularly unlikely that any Last Airbender characters will be included in Seven Havens, as Zuko, Toph, and Katara were already seniors by the time Korra was in her prime, and are likely long-dead once the next Avatar steps in. However, certain characters from The Legend of Korra could appear in Seven Havens in much the same way Zuko, Toph, and Katara had minor roles in The Legend of Korra.

Some Avatar: The Last Airbender characters could appear in Avatar: Seven Havens as spirits. For example, despite being dead for several years, Iroh appeared as a spirit in The Legend of Korra, and others could do in the same in Seven Havens.

The younger of Korra's Team Avatar could have survived longer than her, such as Bolin, Mako, or Asami. They would likely be of an advanced age in Seven Havens, but they could essentially fill the same role The Last Airbender's returning characters already did. Additionally, some of Tenzin's children, like Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan, are even more likely to survive until Seven Havens due to being children in The Legend of Korra. They may have some words of wisdom and advice for Seven Havens' new Avatar, and they could be a link to earlier entries in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
