Fans of the Avatar The Last Airbender franchise have much to look forward to with the live-action adaptation of the series by Netflix.  This adaptation brings Aang and friends back to life with a live-action cast and reportedly aims to stay true to the source material of the animated show, earning optimism and excitement from many fans.

Seeing the legendary airbender Aang brought back in live action will be an interesting change for the series, which could open a whole new field of fans within the Avatar franchise. As an Airbender, Aang was the last of his kind throughout his journey. However, there were many other characters from the Air Temples in the past and present who both influenced his role as Avatar and learned from him in the future.

Meelo

Meelo is a character introduced in The Legend of Korra as the firstborn son of Tenzin and Pema, grandson of Avatar Aang, and brother of Jinora, Ikki, and Rohan. Meelo is a young airbender who lives on Air Temple Island alongside his family and is known for his goofy humor and comments toward others.

Meelo makes his presence known throughout the story with many goofy remarks and clumsy actions, providing a strong sense of comedic relief with his character. Meelo is also a talented airbender for his age and proved he could develop his skills fast and pick up new techniques, as seen during the time skip between seasons three and four.

Bumi

Bumi is the firstborn child of Aang and Katara and the brother of Tenzin and Kya, as well as the only child of the couple born a non-bender. Bumi was known as a wild yet brave man who worked as commander of the Second Division of the United Forced.

It was revealed throughout the story that Bumi felt guilty for not being born the airbender his father had hoped for, but he was nevertheless dedicated to doing all he could to make the world a better place. During the Harmonic Convergence of 171 AG, Bumi received the ability to airbend, allowing him to release his previous self-doubts and move forward alongside Tenzin and the new collective of airbenders to make positive change in the world.

Ikki

Ikki is the second daughter of Tenzin and Pema, the granddaughter of Avatar Aang, and the sister of Jinora, Meelo, and Rohan. Ikki is a youthful airbender who lives at Air Temple Island alongside her family.

Ikki, like her siblings, is a talented young airbender and is also well-known for her energetic, talkative personality. Ikki had many comedic moments influenced by her fun-loving energy and was also known to enjoy the company of animals, with many fans appreciating the loving connection she shared with the creatures of her world.

Opal

Opal is a member of the new Air Nation, known to viewers as the daughter of Suyin Beifong and granddaughter of Toph Beifong. Opal was introduced as having a friendly and down-to-earth attitude, being quick to befriend Korra and her friends when they arrived in Zaofu.

Upon the Harmonic Convergence of 171 AG, Opal received new airbending capabilities and was quick to dedicate herself to learning how to control her new abilities with disciplined training and focus. Opal was quick to grow in strength and was a valuable asset to Team Avatar throughout many important fights, with many fans considering her one of the most powerful female characters in TLOK.

Kai

Kai is a character introduced in The Legend of Korra as an orphaned boy working for himself as a troublesome thief. Upon the Harmonic Convergence of 171 AG, Kai became an airbender and began using his new abilities to aid his theft operations.

Upon meeting Team Avatar, Kai was given the chance to turn his life around and began to train with other new airbenders despite having a wavering loyalty and trouble letting go of his thieving ways. As the story progressed, Kai proved himself on many occasions and turned his life around, becoming one of the most capable new airbenders and assisting Jinora and Korra in many of their fights. Kai's character growth and progression enabled viewers to see his comionate side and made him a fan favorite character in TLOK.

Gyatso

Monk Gyatso is a resident of the Southern Air Temple in Aang's youth and acted as a mentor, guardian, and father figure to him, making himself known as one of the best parental figures in the ATLA franchise.

Gyatso was a loving caregiver for Aang, known for his kindness and sense of humor. Gyatso was an airbending master, and according to Aang, he was known as the greatest airbender in the world during his time. It was significantly due to Gyatso's training of Aang with much love and wisdom that inspired and enabled him to end the Hundred Year War and unite the Four Nations in peace.

Tenzin

Tenzin is introduced in The Legend of Korra as the youngest child of Aang and Katara, the brother of Bumi and Kya, and the father of Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan. Throughout the story, Tenzin is an important leader and mentor to Korra and the new Air Nation.

As the only airbending child of Aang and Katara, Tenzin felt it was his duty to carry on the legacy of the airbenders and spent much time trying to live up to his father's image. After much internal conflict and struggle, Tenzin learns to be his own person and rises not only as one of the most powerful airbenders of the story but also as the important founder and leader of the Air Nation and new, modernized Air Nomads.

Jinora

Jinora is a side character introduced in The Legend of Korra as Tenzin and Pema's eldest daughter, sister of Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan, and granddaughter of Avatar Aang. Jinora is a spiritual and brave resident of Air Temple Island alongside her family, and is considered one of the most underrated characters in the show.

Jinora is a mature and intellectual young airbender who proves herself to be a prodigy throughout the series. She was capable of high skilled airbending techniques, as well as spiritual projection, and received the traditional tattoos of an airbending master at eleven years old, making her the youngest airbending master in history.

Yangchen

Avatar Yangchen was an Air Nomad avatar known for mastering all elements throughout her youth, eager to make a significant impact in changing the world for the better, despite her age. Avatar Yangchen made huge positive changes throughout her time as the Avatar and is known as one of the best Avatars within the franchise.

Avatar Yangchen became a well-respected figure of the Four Nations, known for her fierce dedication to painting the balance of the world by all means necessary. Avatar Yangchen made such an impact during her time as the Avatar that for an entire generation following her death, no threats of war occurred. Yangchen was powerful and ed fondly for her empathy and comion, making her one of the most loved figures of the Air Temples within the franchise.

Aang

Aang is well known as the protagonist of Avatar: The Last Airbender, portrayed as a goofy and fun-loving but also extremely brave, spiritual, and kind young Avatar. As the last of the Airbenders, Aang had the duty of not only carrying on the airbender legacy but also ending the Hundred Year War and hunting the Four Nations in peace.

Aang fulfilled his destiny as the Avatar, creating a significant shift in the world alongside his friends, and raised his children to carry the act of uniting the world in peace. Aang was a loyal friend, lovable personality, and important mentor for his children and his successor, Avatar Korra. Aang's story captured the hearts of many fans who fell in love with his personality and growth as the protagonist. For these reasons, he is considered the best airbender and character from the Air Temples within the entire franchise.
