Everyone has their favorite characters from The Legend of Korra, which was on between 2012 and 2014. And if Sokka and Bolin are not fan faves, many can surely agree that they provide some of the best parts of these animated TV shows!
They are goofy and hilarious, but they are also brave fighters and loyal friends who would do anything for their loved ones and who risked their lives over and over again. That being said, here are five times Sokka was the best character, and five times Bolin was.
When Sokka First Met Suki
When the Kyoshi Warriors captured Team Avatar, Sokka was not too happy about being taken by a “bunch of girls”. One of these warriors, Suki, paid him back by kicking his butt in a fight, which made him want to be trained by her. She agreed… but only if he dressed as she did.
In the midst of training, the two fell for one another, and Suki kissed Sokka, saying that she was indeed a warrior but also a girl, too. He learned a valuable lesson, all while meeting an important love interest.
When Bolin Started Up A Relationship With Eska
When it came to Bolin’s love life, he hit some bumps in the road with Eska, Korra’s cousin with a dark and twisted vibe. Upon first glance, he was attracted to her, but after getting to know her, he was scared of her.
He tried to sneak away without saying goodbye, and Eska was not too happy about that. Eventually and thankfully, this character went home, and Bolin was able to meet Opal. His time with this possessive chick will always be ed, though!
When Sokka Had Some Cactus Juice
One time, while in the desert, Sokka and Momo tried some cactus juice… which turned out to be a hallucinogen.
This led to Momo flying around in a strange way and to Sokka talking nonstop and in a nonsensical way.
When Bolin Met Any Original Character
One of the coolest elements in Korra’s story was the inclusion of characters from Aang’s story, such as Katara, Zuko, Toph and Sokka in flashbacks. And when Bolin met any of these notable people, he freaked out.
From not being able to speak to talking too much, it was always cute and funny to see how this guy would react, in the presence of such important people.
When Sokka Saw The Ember Island Players
The Ember Island Players put on a play about Team Avatar, and Sokka felt the need to give the actor playing him some pointers. This actor was already making jokes, but Sokka thought his would be even better.
This character was known for his funny actions and lines, so seeing him this skill and knowledge on made him even more hilarious!
When Bolin Became A Mover Star
A similar story-within-a-story plotline involved Bolin portraying Nuktuk in a mover Varrick made: The Adventures of Nuktuk: Hero of the South. Again, there were some based-on-real-life elements used, but there were also plenty of embellishments.
This part of Bolin’s life made him a famous star, as well, causing people to want his autograph, recognize him, and even make dolls based on his character.
When Sokka Decided To Become A Swordsman
As fans know, Katara could bend water and heal people, Toph could bend earth and metal, and Aang could do it all and then some. That being said, Sokka felt left out now and then, even though he did have his boomerang and his plans of attack.
Later in the story, though, he took his skills further by looking into swordsmanship; he made a custom weapon, was trained by a professional, and felt better equipped to take on any and all bad guys.
When Bolin Tried Out New Kinds Of Bending
Bolin was an earthbender, but he did sort of understand Sokka’s pain since he wanted to bend metal. When he went to Zaofu, he tried and failed… but then he discovered that he was a lavabender!
This gave him even more confidence and gave him another way to help defend Team Avatar.
When Sokka Said Something Funny
Those who have watched even one episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender and/or those who have read the above points know that Sokka could get labeled the comedic one, and he seemed to enjoy this title.
Sometimes, he made those around him laugh without even trying, which really showed how valuable his fun-loving behavior was; he was missed while he was away training, and when he came back, the group asked him to say something funny. His response caused them to laugh uncontrollably, but all he said was this: “Funny how?”
When Bolin Officiated Varrick’s Wedding
Yes, both Sokka and Bolin could be the comedic relief, but, as mentioned, they were so much more. They faced danger in battles. They did anything they could to assist the Avatar. They utilized quick and creative thinking. And they put genuine friendship on display, providing love and .
Bolin, in particular, was so ired and respected that he even got to officiate Varrick and Zhu Li's wedding at the end of The Legend of Korra. To be fair, Varrick probably also liked that he had a celebrity leading this ceremony… Ol’ Nuktuk himself!
