Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 has not come out on Netflix yet, but production of season 3 is already happening. Filming for what will be the live-action series' final season began in May 2025, happening just as season 2 wrapped filming. Much like season 1, the episodes are expected to introduce important characters from the original series, fleshing out the world in live-action form.
Now, Deadline has confirmed that Adam Beach has been cast as Hakoda in Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3. Hakoda is Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara's (Kiawentiio) father, who left the Southern Water Tribe prior to the start of the season in the war against the Fire Nation. Beach himself has been a popular fan casting choice for the character, making his confirmation an important part of the live-action series' storylines.
What Beach's Casting As Hakoda Means For Avatar: The Last Airbender
Sokka & Katara's Father Is An Important Figure In Their Lives
Adam Beach is best known for his many drama roles, including award-winning performances in movies like Dance Me Outside, Indian Summer, and Smoke Signals. His other recognizable drama roles include Ira Hayes in Flags of Our Fathers, Ohiyesa in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and Edward Nappo in The Power of the Dog. His role on the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender as Hakoda will see him take up the mantle of a warrior of the Water Nation, having left his home behind in order to defend it from the Fire Nation's wrath.

Netflix's Live-Action Avatar Is About To Make A Big Mistake, And It Proves A Big Flaw With The Industry
Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is making a huge mistake in trying to change Toph's character and it shows how Hollywood views anime.
Hakoda plays an important role in the original animated series as well, appearing multiple times across the show and becoming a more important character as the series progresses. It seems like he'll continue to have a core part to play in the live-action version as well, though it's unclear how he'll factor in contrasted with his animated counterpart. Since Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1 ended generally the same way as the original, his role will likely be very similar to how his character was originally portrayed.
Our Take On Adam Beach ing Avatar: The Last Airbender As Hakoda
A Strong Casting Choice For The Season
Beach's casting as Hakoda is long-awaited news for many fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender who've theorized his potential for the role. Now that it's confirmed he'll be arriving in season 3, it means the show will likely be focusing mostly on his later storylines as it adapts the final stretch of the series' core adventure. His arrival will also be a big deal for Sokka and Katara, who haven't seen their father in years by the time he shows up.
Avatar: The Last Airbender seasons 2 and 3 will stream on Netflix.
