At long last, the next televised installment in Avatar: The Last Airbender has finally been revealed. In 2021, Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko founded Avatar Studios, a production company for overseeing brand-new projects set within the franchise, whether they’re centered around Aang’s era, Korra’s era, or a new cast of characters, entirely.
While Avatar Studios has yet to release any projects, some of their future releases have nonetheless been revealed to the public. For starters, Avatar Studios will release a theatrical film starring Aang and his friends as adults in 2026 titled Aang: The Last Airbender, and just now, Avatar Studios, in celebration of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s 20th anniversary, has officially announced the next Avatar series, Avatar: Seven Havens. Naturally, not much is known about the series, but for fans old and new, this is undoubtedly the most exciting announcement in years.
Everything We Know About The New Avatar: The Last Airbender Series
What To Expect From Avatar: Seven Havens
Details about Avatar: Seven Havens are currently sparse, but there’s plenty to glean from just the initial announcement. As the next major installment after The Legend of Korra, the protagonist is, of course, an Earthbender Avatar, with the press release identifying the new Avatar as a girl of an unspecified age. Something noteworthy about her situation is that she’s searching for her long-lost twin, meaning that the protagonist of Avatar: Seven Havens is the first Avatar known to have a biological sibling.
The biggest hook to Seven Havens, however, is how it throws the entire world against the Avatar. At some point, the world was nearly destroyed and broken up into the eponymous Seven Havens, something Korra was apparently involved with, so by the time of Avatar: Seven Havens, the Avatar is seen as humanity’s destroyer, and the new Avatar must deal with being hunted by humans and spirits alike seeking revenge for what Korra did. No Avatar has ever been at odds with the world to this degree, and it’s sure to make for an experience unlike any other Avatar story.
Avatar: Seven Havens Is Going To Make Korra Even More Divisive
Why Avatar: Seven Havens Might Be Bad For Korra
Another major takeaway from Avatar: Seven Havens’ synopsis is how it will affect Korra. The Legend of Korra is highly divisive with fans because of how different Korra is from Aang and the various mistakes she makes, regardless of whether or not they were her fault, chief among them being losing her connection to her past lives. As such, Korra somehow having a hand in almost destroying the world in Avatar: Seven Havens will be easy material for making her even more divisive among Avatar fans, and it might reach the point of being unsalvageable.
That being said, Korra’s situation is bound to be more complicated than her deliberately trying to destroy the world, and figuring out the hows and whys of it all will likely be a major part of the plot; if anything, Avatar: Seven Havens can make Korra less divisive by fleshing out her personality posthumously through whatever role she had in everything. Whatever the case, it’s going to be a long time before anything concrete about Avatar: Seven Havens is known, but there’s probably never been a better time to be a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender than right now.
