2019’s Avengers 4 will work as a finale to the current version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to producer Kevin Feige. When Marvel Studios first announced their ambitious plan for a shared cinematic universe, many in the movie business were sceptical such a plan could work. Such a thing had never been attempted on that scale, and characters like Iron Man and Thor were considered B-listers at best who would struggle to pull in audiences.

Jump forward nearly a decade, no one is questioning their wisdom anymore. In the years since many other studios have tried to repeat Marvel’s formula for cinematic universes, but many – such as the King Arthur franchise – fell apart before they even began. The interconnected nature of the movies and characters has become a big selling point for the franchise too, but the MCU is due to look very different following the events of Avengers 4.

Kevin Feige himself has confirmed this in a new, wide-ranging article in it’s something of a spoiler for Avengers: Infinity War. But he does confirm the movie will “bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale.” The producer goes on to state “There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”

Spider-Man Homecoming

It’s no surprise Avengers 4 Captain Marvel and Spider-Man to take over post-Avengers 4.

While some fans may be worried about the current version of the MCU coming to a definite end – and in all likelihood, a few major character deaths along the way – Marvel claim in the same Vanity Fair piece to have 20 more movies already planned. Plus, if Avengers 4 is going to work as a farewell to characters like Tony Stark and Captain America, it sounds like the studio is going all out to give them the sendoff they all deserve.
