Summary

  • Victor Timely, a variant of Nathaniel Richards, will play an important role in Loki season 2 and may side with Loki and Mobius to shape the new Sacred Timeline.
  • Immortus, the oldest and wisest Kang variant, commands the Council of Kangs and seeks to protect reality in his own way using the help of Rama-Tut, the Scarlet Centurion, and countless other Kang variants.
  • Although Kang the Conqueror was defeated in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, he could still return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty through time travel or multiversal means.

The MCU has already introduced Kang the Conqueror's main multiversal variants in anticipation of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Just as Thanos was the Infinity Saga's inevitable main villain, Kang the Conqueror is a nearly unstoppable threat to every Marvel universe in the Multiverse Saga. Not only are Kang and his variants individually powerful, but their presence across the multiverse makes them very difficult to defeat, as each one of them has unique weapons and knowledge.

He Who Remains' death in the Loki season 1 finale seems ton have unleashed all contained Kang variants, but the Sacred Timeline's disintegration may have allowed them to appear in different eras. Already free, most Kangs also seem to have found a way to each other, as revealed by Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's mid-credits scene, where hundreds of Kang variants are seen reuniting and getting ready to defend their control over the multiverse. While there are countless Kang variants of all shapes and sizes, a few of them stand out as major villains who will likely play an important role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

6 Victor Timely

Victor Timely in Loki Season 2 and Marvel Comics

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's second post-credits scene teases Victor Timely's appearance in Loki season 2, where Loki finds his first Kang variant after He Who Remains. In Marvel Comics, Victor Timely is a variant of the original Nathaniel Richards who takes a detour from conquering to focus on other ambitions. With knowledge of the present and the far future, this Nathaniel Richards adopts the name Victor Timely and becomes a successful industrialist and politician in the early twentieth century, amassing a large fortune and creating many anachronic inventions centuries earlier than expected. Still, Victor Timely's inventions eventually help Kang's time-travel crusade in Marvel Comic's original The Kang Dynasty storyline.

Victor Timely will have an important role in Loki season 2, where it seems he will provide the key to the Sacred Timeline's reconstruction. Victor Timely may not possess access to all the knowledge and technology other Kang variants use to time travel, so his wish to shape time may motivate him to side with Loki and Mobius, at least temporarily. As one of the least powerful Kang variants, Victor Timely isn't a threat as big as Kang, but his genius intellect might still make him a key character in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty if he survives the events of Loki season 2.

5 Pharaoh Rama-Tut

Pharaoh Rama-Tut Kang Variant in The MCU and Marvel Comics

Another Nathaniel Richards variant executes the same plan as Victor Timely, but instead of traveling to the early 1900s, he travels back to the year 2950 BC. Using his knowledge and technology, Richards earns the ancient Egyptians' iration and becomes the Pharaoh Rama-Tut. Rama-Tut enters a deep multi-millennia slumber after ruling Egypt for a while, and as soon as he wakes up in the present, he helps the Avengers fight Kang. Unfortunately, Kang's actions cause the timeline to diverge, and Rama-Tut ends up getting divided: one of the variants chooses the pacifist side and becomes Immortus, and another reawakens his urge to conquer and reverts to his Kang persona.

Given that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's mid-credits scene confirmed that Rama-Tut oversees the Council of Kangs alongside Immortus and Scarlet Centurion, it's likely that he already affected the MCU's main universe in the 31st century BC. One subtle Kang easter egg in Moon Knight episode 3 hints at Rama-Tut's Egyptian history in the form of a logo in the jacket of one of Arthur Harrow's followers. But whether the MCU stays close to the comic books and makes Rama-Tut the step between Kang and Immortus is yet to be seen.

4 Immortus Kang

Kang's Immortus Variant in Ant-Man & the Wasp Quantumania and Marvel Comics

Immortus is the oldest and wisest Kang variant. Tired of conquering, the former Rama-Tut goes back to Ancient Egypt, reclaims his Pharaoh identity, and begins seeking immortality. This quest leads him to the Limbo, where he stops aging and claims the title of Immortus, Master of Time. Immortus helps the Avengers in their fights against Kang and helps the Time-Keepers protect the flow of time. However, Immortus doesn't become a full-fledged hero, as he still opposes both heroes and villains depending on their threat to the timeline. Like his MCU counterpart, Marvel's Immortus commands the Council of Kangs to protect reality in his own way and safeguard his achievements.

The MCU's He Who Remains draws inspiration from Immortus' mastery over time and peaceful personality, as the original He Who Remains is a different character in the source material. Yet, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's mid-credits scene confirms that Immortus exists separately from He Who Remains, and his promise to protect what the Council of Kangs has built suggests that the MCU's version of Immortus is not as benevolent as his comic book counterpart. The mid-credits scene also suggests that Immortus has been waiting for Kang's death to gather the rest of his variants.

3 Scarlet Centurion

Scarlet Centurion Kang Variant in the MCU and Marvel Comics

After Rama-Tut departed Ancient Egypt and his fate divided into different Kangs, one of them reinvented himself as the Scarlet Centurion. Inspired by Doctor Doom, the Scarlet Centurion relied more on technology than other Kangs, and he quickly sought to defeat the Avengers in the present. However, his plans were an utter failure that created even more alternate Kangs and motivated him to return to Egypt as Rama-Tut. Nevertheless, the Scarlet Centurion's legacy lives on in the form of Marcus Kang, one of Kang the Conqueror' many sons across time.

The Scarlet Centurion is the Kang variant with the most changes in comparison to the source material in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Instead of a red suit of armor, the MCU's Centurion seems to sport blue cybernetic enhancements and no visible gadgets or weapons. Quantumania's mid-credits scene suggests a previous enmity between the Centurion and Kang the Conqueror, as Rama-Tut tells the cyborg variant, "it must really eat you up that you're not the one who killed him". Perhaps Kang the Conqueror left the Centurion on the brink of death and other Kangs saved him by reconstructing his body.

2 The Rest Of The Council of Kangs

Lizard Kang and the Council of Kangs cheer in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania Post-Credits Scene

Several Kang variants in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's post-credits scene can be identified. The MCU's homage to the iconic from 1988's Avengers #292 ends with Lizard Kang, whose blue skin and regular-sized eyes differ from his orange-skinned comic book counterpart. Before that, the scene reveals an acrobatic Kang, a boxing Kang with long dreadlocks, a Kang variant in a suit and tie (who may or may not be the present-day Qeng Enterprises CEO Mr. Gryphon), and a reptilian Kang. Other known Kang variants such as Iron Lad, Kid Immortus, and Kangaroo the Conqueror aren't present in the Council of Kangs, but they may already exist somewhere in the MCU.

1 Kang the Conqueror

Kang the Conqueror in the MCU and Marvel Comics

Kang's alleged demise in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicked off the Council of Kangs' plan to forces and protect their grasp on the multiverse, but there's still the possibility that Kang the Conqueror isn't actually dead in the MCU yet. Not only has Quantumania director Peyton Reed been ambiguous in his response to the doubts, but the fact that Kang's supposed death came from a multiversal device makes it easy for Marvel to come up with creative ways to explain his eventual return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. After all, Kang the Conqueror has overcome death multiple times in the comics thanks to his mastery over time.
