Marvel has confirmed the official title of the next Avengers film, full Phase 5 slate - and to tease the franchise's overarching direction, confirming the importance of the multiverse going forward. Phases 1-3 were officially called "The Infinity Saga," but Phases 4-6 will be "The Multiverse Saga."

2024 will be a particularly exciting year, with Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror - set up by Avengers: Endgame, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty ending on a world-shaking note that is resolved at the end of "The Multiverse Saga."

The title of Avengers 5The Kang Dynasty, is lifted straight from the comics, specifically from a 2001-2002 story written by Kurt Busiek. This saw the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror and his son, the Scarlet Centurion, make a devastating attack on Earth; it was one of the most spectacular events published in comics, with Kang placing the entire world under siege and destroying Washington, D.C. in a horrific act of reprisal when the Avengers tried to fight back. Kang actually conquered the planet, with the Avengers forced to serve as something of a resistance army, eventually managing to overthrow him. They would have been unable to defeat Kang had his son, Scarlet Centurion, not fallen for Carl Danvers (then Ms. Marvel).

How Will Avengers 5 Adapt The Kang Dynasty?

Kang the Conqueror in Loki

It's worth noting that the MCU is unlikely to do a straight adaptation of The Kang Dynasty. The franchise has a habit of lifting the names of major events but adapting them liberally. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness teased that this conflict could potentially cause all the timelines to collide, perfectly setting up Secret Wars.

The word "Dynasty" is particularly interesting, given that it is closely associated with the rule of the Egyptian Pharaohs. One of the most notable incarnations of Kang in the comics is Pharaoh Rama-Tut, who ruled Egypt in ancient times, and Rama-Tut's presence in the main MCU timeline. It's quite possible the MCU's version of Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty will involve the Egyptian version of Kang - perhaps making Moon Knight a much more important part of the MCU than he had previously seemed to be.
