Warning: SPOILERS for Avengers Assemble Alpha #1

The ultimate plan of Avengers Assemble Alpha #1. After years of buildup, the goal of Marvel's version of the Devil is now evident, as Mephisto begins his assault on Avengers Tower to conquer the God Quarry, a place of ultimate power that could give him control over the entire Multiverse.

Since the current Avengers ongoing series began in 2018, author Jason Aaron slowly but surely built up Mephisto as the ultimate villain that the Earth's Mightiest Heroes had to face. While Mephisto set up several schemes to get rid of the Avengers and conquer Earth, his ultimate plan started to become manifest only in Avengers #50 (#750 legacy numbering), when Mephisto recruited the Doom Supreme (the strongest and most evil version of Doctor Doom) to from the new Masters of Evil and begin conquering every Earth in the Multiverse. At the same time, Mephisto assembled his own group, called the Council of Reds, which includes versions of himself recruited from hundreds of alternate realities.

However, Mephisto's ultimate goal remained a mystery, as it was clear that even the full force of the Council of Reds, declaring that he is not actually interested in the Earths, but in the "orchard" from which everything grows.

Mephisto's Ultimate Goal Is The God Quarry

The very first page of this issue describes the God Quarry, where the Avengers Tower is located, as "The rich soil from which all existence grows", so it's clear that this is what Mephisto was after all along. The demon also mocks Avenger Prime for leaving his watchtower, meaning that everything has been a setup to make him leave the God Quarry unguarded. The God Quarry, also known as the Quarry of Creation, is a mysterious location at the very edge of the universe, which serves as a point of access to the First Cosmos, the very first iteration of the Multiverse where the Original Celestials reside, and the place of origin of the Infinity Stones.

It's still unclear what Mephisto plans to do with the God Quarry. He could be looking for a way to access the primordial universe (something that only Loki was able to accomplish before) from where he could perhaps shape the entire Multiverse in his image. The God Quarry itself is a place of great power, which Thanos once used to defeat his son Thane, who was powered by the Phoenix Force. The only thing that is standing between Mephisto and his ultimate goal is the team of Multiversal Avengers assembled by Avenger Prime, and the fate of reality itself rests on their shoulders.
