Warning: This article contains spoilers for Secret Invasion episode 6.
Summary
- The Harvest in Secret Invasion collected DNA from several MCU characters, including Ghost, Captain America, Corvus Glaive, Thanos, and more.
- The Super Skrulls gained enhanced abilities, including super strength and agility, by incorporating the DNA of characters like Captain Marvel, Abomination, Mantis, and Drax.
- The inclusion of characters like Hulk, Thor, Gamora, and Winter Soldier's DNA in the Harvest is significant as it grants the Super Skrulls powerful Asgardian and super soldier abilities.
The DNA of a number of MCU characters was included in the Harvest in Secret Invasion. The Phase 5 series marked Samuel L. Jackson's first solo adventure in the MCU, and as the former Director of SHIELD and the benefactor behind the Avengers, Nick Fury's extensive connections mean that Earth's Mightiest Heroes also played a major role in Secret Invasion. While the series didn't feature any major cameos, several superpowers were showcased in Secret Invasion's finale, "Home," as Kingsley Ben-Adir's Gravik enhanced both himself and, unwittingly, Emilia Clarke's G'iah with the abilities of several past MCU characters, thanks to the mysterious Harvest.
Secret Invasion episode 5, "Harvest," introduced the never-before-seen serum, explained to be a collection of characters' DNA that was collected from the battlefield following the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame. Fury noted that almost every Avenger spilled blood during Endgame's epic final battle against Thanos and his army, but neglected to reveal exactly whose DNA was included in the Harvest. Secret Invasion's finale provided a long list of characters, however, whose DNA was collected after Endgame. While many high-profile Avengers were mentioned, there were also some major surprises in the complete 21-character-strong list.
21 Ghost
Hannah John-Kamen debuted as Ava Starr, a.k.a. Ghost, in 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp, which ended with her going on the run with her father figure, Bill Foster, after being cured of her phasing issue. Her name is an unexpected one to appear in the Harvest, as she wasn't featured in Avengers: Endgame. However, it's possible that Fury could have still had access to her DNA, as Ghost had been raised as an assassin for SHIELD after the accident that caused her abilities. Ghost is set to make her next appearance in Phase 5's Thunderbolts, so this mention in Secret Invasion could be setting up her MCU return.
20 Captain America
After the Harvest was introduced in Secret Invasion episode 5, it was clear that Steve Rogers' DNA would be included in the serum. Chris Evans debuted as Rogers back in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, and became a key player in several MCU stories afterward, including facing Thanos in Avengers: Endgame's final battle. Captain America was seriously injured in Endgame, with his arm being sliced open, meaning there was probably a huge sample of his DNA available for collection. His DNA enhanced the Super Skrulls with Erskine's super-soldier serum, gifting them supreme strength, speed, and stamina, though he was only one super soldier featured in the Harvest.
19 Corvus Glaive
Corvus Glaive was introduced as one of the Children of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, and though he wasn't shown to have any unique abilities, he did have enhanced strength and agility, and a regenerative healing factor. While he eventually met his demise at the hands of Vision - stabbed with his own glaive - Corvus Glaive returned to battle alongside his father in Avengers: Endgame, though this would once again end in his death, this time being stabbed by Okoye's vibranium spear. Glaive's abilities would have enhanced Secret Invasion's Super Skrulls with similar abilities to Captain America, though the regenerative healing factor was a bonus.
18 Thanos
Thanos was an unexpected addition to the roster of DNA in the Harvest, particularly since he didn't seem to spill any blood during Avengers: Endgame's final battle. Josh Brolin initially debuted as Thanos in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, but Avengers: Infinity War marked his grand introduction to the Avengers, as he embarked on his quest to collect the Infinity Stones and wipe out half the population of the universe. Thanos' Titan physiology makes him almost indestructible - Tony Stark did a lot of work to draw one drop of blood in Infinity War - and his elongated lifespan could hint at G'iah now sticking around for many years.
17 Outrider
The Outriders were the animalistic creatures comprising a huge portion of Thanos' army in Infinity War and Endgame, used to battle the Avengers in Wakanda before Thanos himself arrived to claim the Mind Stone. As a basic species, the Outriders have little intelligence, but are incredibly durable, and brutal in their fighting techniques. Outriders' DNA being featured in the Harvest in Secret Invasion would allow Gravik and G'iah some impressive strength and a brutality that would help them in any battle, though there aren't really any special abilities granted to them by including the Outriders' DNA.
16 Proxima Midnight
Proxima Midnight was another member of Thanos' Black Order, his adoptive daughter and Corvus Glaive's wife, with similar abilities to her husband. Superhuman strength, agility, speed, durability, and reflexes, Proxima Midnight's most impressive abilities are learned, including her skills with spears and swords. Proxima Midnight was shown to be able to hold her own against the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Infinity War, however, proving that she is a valuable asset to the Harvest's DNA roster, though there are several more characters with far more unique capabilities.
15 Captain Marvel
Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, was the most exciting addition to the Harvest in Secret Invasion, made even more impactful because of her connection with the Skrulls in the MCU. Introduced in 2019's Captain Marvel, Danvers' abilities were gifted to her after she was exposed to the pure energy of a Tesseract-powered light-speed engine. After her powers were unlocked, Captain Marvel was enhanced with superhuman strength, durability, and speed, but could also manipulate cosmic energy, fly, regenerate faster than average humans, and has an elongated lifespan. She is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, so the Super Skrulls gaining her abilities is an exciting prospect.
14 Abomination
Much like Ghost, Emil Blonsky, a.k.a. Abomination, didn't show up during Avengers: Endgame's final battle, since he was imprisoned at the end of 2008's The Incredible Hulk. This imprisonment would have allowed Fury to have easy access to Blonsky's DNA, making him a clear choice for the Harvest, particularly after the reformed villain appeared in Phase 4's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Abomination has similar abilities to Bruce Banner's Hulk, but is also enhanced with a derivative of the super-soldier serum, granting Secret Invasion's Super Skrulls some incredible and terrifying powers.
13 Mantis
Pom Klementieff debuted as Mantis in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ego's empathetic aide who eventually ed the Guardians. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special revealed that Mantis is Star-Lord's sister, meaning she is also half-Celestial, so the inclusion of her DNA in the Harvest could make the MCU's Super Skrulls some of the most formidable beings in the universe. Mantis' empathetic powers come in handy during the Secret Invasion finale's battle between Gravik and G'iah, as the latter uses Mantis' power to send Gravik to sleep before he crashes into the ground. Mantis is often underestimated, but this proves she is more valuable than first thought.
12 Cull Obsidian
Cull Obsidian was the first member of Thanos' Black Order to be confirmed in Secret Invasion's Super Skrull enhancements, as his strength and durability were included in the initial Super Skrull tests. Cull Obsidian's DNA could have been collected for the Harvest from the battlefield in Avengers: Endgame, but his initial DNA samples were assumedly collected from his hand that was severed during his first visit to Earth in Avengers: Infinity War. Cull Obsidian was killed in Endgame thanks to the teamwork of Spider-Man and Scott Lang as Giant-Man, leaving a potentially huge sample of his DNA on the battlefield to be collected by Gravik and Fury's other Skrull operatives.
